    Hello!

I am 19 years old, and I may have made a stupid purchase. On a whim i paid 315€ (279€ + shipping) for what the seller claimed was an authentic vintage Omega Seamaster. After snooping around for a bit, I am not so sure. As can be seen on the picture, it is a re-dial, but I lack the eye to tell if this is an okay one or one that should be posted in "worst re-dials".

    The information goes as follows:

    Serial No. : 23008227
    Ref No. : 165.003
    Year of manufacture: ~1966

    Automatic Caliber 552 movement.

I was looking for a more high-end authentic watch to wear, and even if this is a re-dial, I want to be sure it is an OK re-dial and also if I got my money's worth. I will probably start thirsting for an authentic original dial, but for the time being I might settle for this.

For me the dial seems quite crisp (which i'd want) but it lacks all the nice touches of SWISS MADE, and so on. From some pictures it looks like the Omega logo is asymmetrical, but this might just be because of the angle (at least i hope so!)

I have provided all photos posted by the seller.

Do I detect a missing bezel? There are a number of these currently for sale on line. Check these out to get an idea of the missing bezel. I think I see rust on the stem. Where else might there be rust? Considering what you have invested, and considering the missing bezel, and considering the watch needs to be serviced, and likely some rusted parts will need to be replaced, I suggest you cut your losses, and don’t spend any more on it. And, investigate before you invest. Can you return the watch?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Return it! Don't discuss if the redial is ok or not. The seller made a wrong description.
It is not a matter of acceptable or not. It is simply wrong.

What @Oku says. If you can return it and get your money back, you should.

Complete fantasy dial that bears little resemblance to what the dial originally looked like.

    Try and return.

That's a small price to pay for getting away from that.

The seller did not make a tottally wrong description. It was written, that the dial has been restored.

Well what do you think? Do you like it? Several members are saying return it. I think it looks ridiculous but I know what dials from the period should look like.

You have the reference number inside the caseback. Do a google search.

Listen to the experienced, expert voices on here and return it. Suck up the $7 postage costs, swallow your pride and return it. The best advice another Noob can give you, you won't regret it.

This might be even a fraudulant seller, because he/she has another watch just like it, with a similarly "restored" dial.

Not just the price. If it was 100 quid I'd say don't buy it.

You must like the look of it though, or why did you buy it.

No collector will tell you it's ok. From a collecting point of view it's an utter bag of shit. But if you like it, it's your call.
