Back to school night – Rolex Rolex Rolex

I had the honour of attending a back to school night at our youngest’s school last week. It is a private school, so that may bias things but still I thought this could be an interesting evening for a watch person. To amuse myself I counted watches on other wrists for the evening, and here is my tally:

Mens:

Apple Watch – far too many to count, two Samsung smart watches as well.

Rolex – two submariners, one with escape pusher thing, one datejust with dark grey dial

Omega – nada, zilch, none, totally absent (excluding my Speedmaster Reduced)

Bulova – Spaceview Accutron

JLC (?) – one white dialed dress watch

Womens:

Apple watch

Ladies dress – one Omega (?)

Now the parking lot is a very different story, predominantly German/Italian Uberwagen or Tesla.
So not only is the Antiques Roadshow fellow correct, Rolex, Rolex, Rolex is killing it, but this crowd does not put much money on their wrists despite the means to do so.

This crowd is not putting much money on their wrists because … their wealth is tied up in real estate and home furnishings, stocks and bonds, crypto, nice cars and private school tuition?

What "escape pusher thing"? A helium escape valve?

I will always remember one dad at my kids' [private] elementary school who had a fairly large collection of complicated Pateks which he always wore to school functions. And he was a very nice guy.

As discussed in a different thread... you should tell them it's "condition condition condition" !! 😁

You should tell the Rolex wearers to leave them home, too dangerous to wear now.

Especially the one with the escape pusher thing.

Especially the one with the escape pusher thing.

you push the escape pusher thing when you need to escape. It alerts all sales staff at the empty Rolex stores in 1000 mile radius that you are looking to sell, they are so excited to get inventory and make some profit on the flip that they glom onto you and create a protective bubble nothing can penetrate. However the extreme pressures created by the Rolex sales staff requires controlled decompression and that’s when the secondary purpose of the HEV comes into play.

I had my new-to-me 2010 Omega Railmaster that I bought off a member here last week and the wife had on her Bulova A-15 on a brown leather cuff strap. It has become one of her favorite watches, now I just need to find her something Omega but stupid me talked her into a Longines Pulsometer Chronograph (she's a veterinary surgery tech and that's gonna be her retirement watch.)
