PBJ, chips, and chocolate milk baby. My mom and dad sprung for the extra nickel for the chocolate milk.

I came from an era when lunch was a baloney or cheese sandwich, some chips, maybe a banana, and a Twinkie, in a brown paper bag. Milk was 2¢ (white or chocolate). Then we would go out to the playground for 20 minutes to rough house with friends. Good times. Now it is ultra complicated to be a kid.

I think if you say the “nut” word in school you’ll be banished forever. Those look like chick peas to me. Maybe he can make his own hummus.

Things have evolved a lot since then. My 6-year-old gets baloney AND cheese on his daily sandwich!

He is allergic to nuts (except Almond)-deadly allergic. He carries his Epipen day in day out. One time in a party ice cream scooper got contaminated with peanut flavored ice cream and we had to rush him to ER. Rashes from head to toe.
This are chick peas. We try to eat healthy but he gets treats every now and then.

It is especially when the Mom is so health conscious. Park Slope/Brooklyn is such a health focus family community( i guess most places now) that I go "nuts" from time to time.

Wow, my respect for the amount of care and work you put into lunches. I'm also in Park Slope and my kids get a ham and cheese sandwich, a handful of grapes, and a few pretzels or crackers, all in ziplock baggies, pitched into a lunch sack.

I do have to ask: does your 8 year old actually eat all that? If I sent that with my kids, it would come back with broccoli, carrots, chickpeas, and tomatoes untouched.

One of my best friends used to get lunches like that. He would try to swap them every day for a bag of chips or anything that was not what he got in his lunch box. If he couldn't swap it, most of it ended up in the bin.
