Lol very strange thing I want to note when I type "tranny5" it auto corrects to "transitionals"

I even had a had time trying to bypass it. I had to substitute the "5" for the "s"! Lol.

Yeah from what I understand the Tips and PDKs in the 996/997 Turbos are actually quite stout. There are plenty of people running 600HP+ no problem on their stock transitionals.
I've been wanting to replace my daily for some time now (but am holding off due to the current market) and I have been looking a bit harder at the 997.2/991 in the PDK variety since they can be had for a bit cheaper in most cases.
Which is good because I have a hard time justifying spending a lot of money on a daily driver. Or just a lot of money at all...I'm pretty cheap lol.
Yea the PDK is bloody good, it really is. Just do keep in mind that even the manuals are still PDK, they replace the dual clutch pack and you have this mechanism that converts your normal H pattern movements that would go to a single transmissions to actuate the dual transmissions inside of it, so between that bit of trickery and the cable linkage its an odd feeling and somewhat sloppy system. It can handle insane amounts of power though, even the new 992 Sport Classic with the turbo 3.8 engine uses the PDK based 7-speed manual with a heavier clutch because it can take that with ease while the 6-speed wouldn’t.

That 6 speed GT box does feel amazing though while the 7-speed feels like an E30 or E34 with a loose linkage… long throws, loose and a bit awkward.

I got pretty lucky because I bought at the height of the first wave of covid out of Melbourne and the dealer who had my car was locked down and desperate to unload it to the extent that they broke the law having it smuggled up for me. The prices had actually dipped a lot at that point and there was an oversupply (mid-2020), 6 months later they were changing hands at almost double what I paid. Since then I’ve put about 25k kms on it and its just superb, bulletproof car, incredibly practical for taking kids around and even large shopping trips and fuel economy is about on par with a 2020 Toyota Camry V6 non-hybrid. The fact that there’s never a downside or compromise to driving it just makes it so good as a daily, even the ride is great.

No question the PDK box is great, but I'm looking at it from the perspective of someone who wants a 911 Turbo as a fun car, not a sporty daily driver.

No matter how quick it shifts or how much power it can handle, it's still just not the same as shifting yourself. Even saying to yourself "I will always use the paddles" isn't gonna cut it when you need to do a super early coffee run and just say screw it, I'll leave it in auto - next thing you know, it's always in auto. Might as well just go with that Camry IMO

As for drag cars, sure - just put your foot down and forget about it. Enjoy watching that Tesla gap the sh*t outta you LOL. If you're two-pedaling you may as well go electric in 90% of situations (the other 10% are those whose commutes are too long essentially)

My daily (the GTI) is a 6 speed and some days I'm just over it.
Don't get me wrong, I will always prefer shifting my own gears. But on a 25 mile straight highway commute it doesn't really do me any favors.
Only on the off ramp that goes into a nice sweeping right hander do I get to have any fun practicing my heel-tow and seeing how much life the tires have left lol.
A coworker just got his Model 3 and it is the middle one, so not the slowest but not the fastest and that thing still scoots.
Has me thinking real hard about making the switch.

When I moved to CA (from New York) and needed a car, I went right for an S2000 and drove that daily. Trust when I say I understand your position - in all that stop and go traffic, I wanted something with auto start/stop to save gas, even!

The truth is, I hate driving on a daily basis. Doesn't matter if I'm in the nicest S-Class or Tesla or Bentley or Porsche, I absolutely can't stand it. Now that I'm back in New York though I'm able to live my ideal life of using public transportation (or walking) for the everyday stuff, and the S2000 is snug in the garage ready for weekend fun.

(Even on an open road, the S2000 is not a good highway or road trip car, it's noisy and exhausting, which is why I'm looking at 911 Turbos)

I don't mind driving...well, most of the time. Some days I'm ready to murder people but mostly I'm happy to just cruise and listen to music. Even in Manhattan! Lol.
I think it helps that I carpool with my brother in law. He will drive one week and I'll drive the next.
So it breaks it up a bit and also keeps the wear and tear down on our cars.

Air ride is cheating lol.
My old Audi...I could scrape reflectors off the road with this thing.

Can't believe that was almost 12 years ago now. A whole other life back then hah.

Weekend before last I attended a vintage Concours D'Elegance in Southampton, New York. It was a benefit for the Fresh Air Home, an organization which specializes in providing quality recreation for special needs children. This particular Concours was actually a popularity contest with good fun and refreshment.

On topic now, here are few photos.

Very rare Bizzarrini Strada in the center with the "AC" section in the rear featuring a 427 Cobra , AC Aceca, AC Ace Bristol and AC Aceca Coupe. There's half a 246 GT Targa in the photo as well. ;-)

There were 64 classic cars there and a lot of bandwidth to consume if I were to put them all up!

One more, a 2005 Ford GT

I doubt anyone would want to see the other Ferraris, Aston Martins, the rare Ghia, the three Bugattis, Lambos, etc. ;-)

Mate we already spent a fortune on storage and bandwidth so by all means, these cars are worth it and our setup can handle it

Oh good lord I didn't know it was going to be a wagon!
So much want! I would love to do that swap since we never got these in the US.
I've seen a couple E46 wagons with s54 swaps sell lately and I think that would be a hell of a daily.

Holy shit. That was thrilling, and the fastest I’ve ever seen an ‘everyday’ car go. Just wow. Where were the Polizei in the green and white 911’s? 😁

North American highways, and the drivers who travel them, need to take a lesson from their European counterparts. It’s such a treat to drive over there.
