I wish I had a watch like yours! Beautiful to my eyes, used as a real tool watch! Scars and scratches
Stay safe, from Italy.

Cheers mate! I will send some photos of the service and when its all done!

I am so happy that your watchmaker didn't tell you that the watch is cactus. Looking forward to seeing it finished!

Cool legacy watch and great response re: the hands etc.

I'm in the relume camp on this one. Best case: original dial, original lume. But this isn't best case. Relume > bad lume in my humble opinion. This is a perfect specimen for a quality relume job and it's not a wildly expensive process. Get some new hands and a bezel (a C- condition bezel will fit the watch perfectly) and it's a badass daily wearer.

Cheers mate! Yeah I have been reading up on this model a lot and I am working on things with my watch maker. I might compromise slightly and have some vintage matching hands installed and just leave the original handset alone. The dial restoration.....still not sure. The problem is when I look around online no one has a watch with a dial in similar condition to mine. So either everyone has had theirs touched up or mine is just going to stand out.

I am starting to learn towards light service this time around and in a few years getting slightly more serious about what work is done next.

Service with what you got and wear it like a tool watch. No need to make anything pretty.

I would just make it tell the time.

Did you go with a Perth watchmaker. ?
I’m in the Northern Territory and the closest I got is two other blokes that can actually tell the time besides myself 😉

Thanks a lot all of you. I am still getting pms with sad low ball offers even though I have said a dozen times I am keeping it. Must be worth a fair bit or watch sellers are sniffing some ignorance and moving in for a kill.

Funny, what’s the lowest offer you have had...

And any established members or all zero post dealers, lurking in the shadows?

A bit of both. Most are offering 3k US. The problem for them is I have schooled up thanks to you guys, so I know a lot more than I did a month ago. The pms are always the same though, telling me how much a full restoration would be (even though thats not what I am doing) and they would be doing me a favour by taking it off my hands. They must be working off the same watch flipper script lol. One of them sent me a link to his 'webiste' which was a gumtree advert "We buy watches - cash on the spot"

That’s standard operating procedure. Trash the watch and than make a low ball offer. you are right in smelling rats on the prowl. I too am looking forward to your progress!

Can't wait to see how this turns out.

100% on the tool watch/man hands as well.

Also keen to see the end result, it's amazing how a quality product can just keep going and people like yourself put the time, effort and finance behind continuing their legacy. Good on you, I need lume redone for a couple old timers i have so ceased keen to hear what you think

I am interested to see how it all turns out too. I have also learnt so much from you guys over the past few weeks mostly via pm's. You all really looked out for me when I indicated some flippers were circling.

I will definitely send some after photos of the dial so you can see how it turned out and if it was worth it.

No doubt, a watch like this is extremely interesting. This kind of provenance is extremely rare.

If you have patience and money, you should be able to source a set of hands and a dial for this reference and year. They're out there for sure. All you need is to hook up with a serious collector that's interested in helping you in the project.

There are still enough competent watchmakers with supplies of parts to service this particular movement. If these options aren't palatable, leave it as is. It's a more than awesome heirloom in this original condition with the box and papers. Certainly, a great piece that will elicit interesting conversations.

Good luck
