So this is one of those blurry picture from 1m away, no description, wrong category, classifieds kind of purchases with quite favorable pricing. I took a gamble and bought it, since I could make out that its a CYMA and requested additional photos, which showed the dial to be ok and only damage to the crystal. The seller had lost it in the meantime after posting the add and it took about a month until it turned up again.
🤦
You get the idea....
When it arrived today, I am very pleased and feel like the gamble turned out well, even though I still cannot put my finger on what it is exactly. I.e. how to date it and if it is a factory CYMA, or a re-cased pocket watch.
It is a CYMA / Tavannes higher grade movement with 38mm diameter, setting via crown. I am pretty sure that the case and back are solid silver with 43mm diameter. Lugs seem to be original and not added / soldered on later, width is 20-21mm. There are those ||//\\ marks on the case, but no hallmarks / branding that I found o far. The dial (gilt?) is in good (very good, except for the little, hardly visible chip in the middle of the subdial) condition and has turned into a very nice, deep and uneven brown. The main hands seem to be made of silver as well and are heavily oxidized.
The movement is working fine, but obviously would need a service. It seems that with a new onion / conical crown, polished hands and new crystal, it should be a fine wearer.
However, I would be obviously grateful, if someone can share some wisdom / thoughts on it.
