This just arrived. A Longines wristwatch from 1913-
Back when wristwatches were very rare for men, and it’s a very early center seconds movement to boot. The watch was retailed by Dent, the maker of Big Ben and of the "Standard clock "at the Royal Observatory of Greenwich, which served as a reference to "GMT" (Greenwich Meridien time) for all clocks in the British empire. As retailers in Great Britain did not want manufacturers names to appear anywhere -the Longines archive confirms the dial was sold with “no name” on the dial.
Well to stay with the helbros theme, I got this for a song. The not running, no anything. Didn’t even have a battery, so the battery finally came in, the stem had been put in like halfway or something. So it run ok, will be on the grapher later on. As I got it, just a battery installed.
Nivada Grenchen Aquamatic. Dirt cheap (less than 50 USD shipping and taxes included) considering it has been recently serviced, self winds and runs like new and keeps time within one second in 24 hours.
Seller's image below.
Looks much better close up in good light.
31.5mm case, 17mm turtle lugs.
I put it on a proper sized slightly worn period pigskin band which luckily still had the proper spring bars in it. Wearing it now.
