I've been hunting for a Marvin Flying Dutchman in Steel for about 6 years. A few weeks back this one popped up on eBay, with a seller based in Israel, and I jumped on it. Pretty happy with what arrived.
Never buy normal Quartz Omega's, but this time I saw an local auction with a Omega Seamaster Quartz listed as not working. There were only a low bid on it, but looking at the pictures it look nearly unused and with 14 days return it could not go wrong if the movement was broken, so put a bid on it. It looked like a reference with a cal. 1342 so i ordered a Renata 329 battery at the same time hoping it would fix it Got it and put in a new battery and it runs perfect Omega Seamaster Quartz, ref. 396.0854, cal. 1342 from 1977
Here my latest family member. Yes it’s Chinese . It’s a remake if the 1963 Seagull. The movement is based on the Venus 175, as used in the Breitling Chronomat, and while facts are thin on the ground the rumour is that Seagull bought the tooling for this movement from Venus’ owner Valjoux. This manual wind movement is a column wheel 21 jewel variant. Yes a column wheel! The watch has what I consider a classic look with new watch reliability and a wonderful cream dial face. The hands are blue (not blued, as in heat treated) so they do stand out, and the centre chronograph seconds hand is red ,which is a nice mix of colour on the dial. The applied markers do shout vintage, as do the pump pushers. The watch has a glass crystal instead of acrylic, and the exhibition case back upgrades the watch IMO too. The watch comes with an additional brown leather strap as well as the NATO strap it’s set. While it’s not going to get sold at auction for £1M Any time soon, it is great value at around £150 Including p&p.
After spending a lot of time researching JLC travel clocks, I decided that I needed one to take apart... and maybe turn in to a restoration project. £55 plus postage. The movement runs, the alarm is intermittent, the leather has seen better days.
Got this for $45 but big buyer's remorse later on Got it to 3d-print a desk clock enclosure for it, paint it gold, and have like a tiny/unique desk clock with date But in hindsight, should've let someone else have it, I also have no idea how I'm going to operate it without a crown - researched ETA 256.461 but not much easy info on it
Just got this in the mail today. Nothing too special about it, but the model has personal significance. Already ordered new crystal, crown/stem and gaskets. The dial, hands and case are in great shape for a 50 year old watch. Looking forward to the restoration.
Posted this on WRUW but wanted to share that I got this Cricket for $300. Good deals are out there folks
My 2 most recent arrivals 1. Super funky Omega Chronostop Took me a couple of google searches on how to adjust the band. My wrist is so small, I had to adjust it all the way! No. 27 clasp is a cool one. 2. Beefy Lug Seamaster 2576. I got this one just in time for my birthday happy that at least one watch of mine's has sentimental value lol most are bought on impulse (the best are as you know).
Recently aquired this ref 2639. Fetched it from the watchmaker yesterday, fully serviced and new crystal View attachment 1040782
