At a local auction this one did not get a single bid. A pity since it’s simply too nice to not get any love. Ended up becoming my cheapest vintage pick up by some margin.

This one just arrived. A lovely 2622-1 from 1951. The dial has a strong yellow tint and the radium has left some marks, but I really like the look of it. There is just something about these full numeral radium dials.

Is there a resource available to learn the history of your watch based on the serial number? (When/where it was first purchased, past owners, etc...?)

“Juliet Bravo 1-7-3-5 Cleared to Land”

After a long, tortuous flight (i.e. wait), the Air Command has made a smooth landing onto my wrist!

This is my initial foray into the world of Blancpain. However, I always thought it would be some iteration of a Fifty Fathoms. In fact, I originally called the boutique back in May to submit a deposit for another 2019 novelty, the Barakuda. But, the more photos I saw of the Air Command, the more I started to question my decision. After an agonizing internal debate, I decided to transfer my deposit to the Air Command, which, fortunately, the boutique was able to satisfy:

I was at a client engagement down in New Orleans this week where you don’t get the best phone reception. On Tuesday, I went to lunch and then I noticed a bunch of emails downloaded. Initially, I didn’t pay much attention. Then, towards the end of my lunch, I recognized an email from Blancpain. My colleagues saw my reaction and asked, “Are you okay?” I replied, “Yes! In fact, I’m ecstatic!” Now, I’m usually home on Thursday nights. Unfortunately, I had to fly to our office in Houston on Friday for my annual performance review yesterday! Ugh - talk about poor timing 🙁

I’m a huge fan of modern iterations that pay tribute to vintage pieces. The original Air Command was unsuccessfully pitched to the U.S Air Force in the late 1950’s. The actual number produced is obscured under a cloud of ambiguity. But, estimates are less than 100. Slightly larger, the new Air Command is almost visually identical to the original.

Although a source of heartburn for some, I actually love the propeller rotor:

IMHO, Blancpain knocked it out of the park with the Air Command. 👍

Have a great weekend!

Mark

A friend of mine recently gave me this Omega screwdriver set that he stumbled across at a flea market.
I've never seen one before, has anyone else?

It´s been a while since I wanted to add a Breguet 3800 to my collection. I found this one recently and took the plunge.
Tritium dial, sold in 1997 and comes with the full set.
I bought it from the original owner´s son, truly a nice guy, I must say.
The watch is unworn, in pristine condition, with a super tight clasp and the sticker still in the back. I couldn´t be happier.

Picked this up in December, but it immediately went off to service as the chrono hand was just the slightest bit off-center. When I saw it in the eBay listing I literally ran to find my credit card!

I know these are super rare, but wondering if anyone's got a decent idea how many were produced.

Wow - congratulations! 😀 I totally agree that it is a fantastic idea to rather reissue such beauties, than just leave them invisible with only a couple of pieces on the planet.

I will confess here first....my first WG watch ever. But with the slate dial and the red chrono hand.....I simply could not resist. Was secretly dreaming of those since they came out 15 years ago...

and YES, I like the Arab numerals...😉
