TAG Heuer Carrera, Jack Heuer 40th Anniversary (CV2117) arrived yesterday.

It’s equipped with the Calibre 17, ETA 2894, automatic movement. The white-gray panda dial is especially lovely, breaking away from the traditional white-black, and the red-orange chronograph hand fits incredibly well. There’s a tachymeter scale around the edge of the dial and the date at 6 o’clock.

According to Calibre11.com, “Of these various re-edition models, perhaps the most sought-after is the 1964 limited edition (Ref. CV2117), known as the Jack Heuer 40th anniversary Carrera.” There were only 1964 of this watch produced. “Carrera 1964–2004, 40 Years of Legend Jack Heuer Limited Edition” is engraved on the case back along with Jack Heuer’s signature.

At 39mm, the watch is slightly bigger than the original’s 36mm, but fits perfectly on my wrist. Unfortunately, it didn’t come with the original strap. I wanted it to properly represent its heritage, so I purchased a genuine TAG Heuer deployant clasp (FC5014) and aftermarket rally-style strap from Watch Strap World.

Excellent choice! The grey colouring in the dial elevates it to a very special watch, IMO.

Just got this one in the mail.
A self winder from a company I haven't heard of before.
The 25 jewel movement is signed Midland Watch Co and the watch appears to have seen very little wear time for its age. Started right up and appears to be keeping time as advertised.

The dial has an unusual and very fine finish. best I could describe it would be mother of pearl.
The case is unusually thin for a self winder. The whole watch seems proportioned for a youth or possibly a ladies size though large enough to have been ID'ed as a Mens watch. Fits my gimpy wrist quiet nicely.

Any information on this brand would be appreciated.
The movement is considered to be a very good one , an ETA 2453 Swiss made.

Picked up this bad boy a couple of weeks ago. What an eye-opener. I used to ignore it until I had the chance to try one on at an AD and instantly understood the cult-like following of this horological icon. Now it's my daily watch and it grows on me more and more each day.

I might as well have just bought this marine chronometer from the early 1850’s, cause the service I just paid for cost more than the chronometer did when I bought it 30 years ago.

Well worth it.

So accurate that it used to be the shop timekeeper in a local watchmaker’s business.

I picked up my newest acquisition this weekend and am enjoying it immensely so far. This is the Ming 17.01

@R3D9 Mine says hi! I managed to get it with the last batch that became available on their website. Quite the experience, hitting the buy button 😀

Mind letting me know where you got the strap from? Looks awesome on the watch!

That blue dial looks incredible! The strap you see in my pictures is a simple suede strap from B&R Bands with some curved springbars inserted in order to fit.

1908 Waltham Trench watch with original shrapnel guard! Bought for $102. Been waiting a long time for one of these as previously stated.
Cool ... is it going on a bund strap?

Nice clean vintage Benrus, unsure if early 40's or early 50's. They suspended production during WW2 to manufacture time fuses for artillery shells and bombs.
Runs good near as I can tell in the last four hours or so. Period Speidel band is a perfect fit.

Seller's pics don't do it justice.

PS
Found one with the same dial , hands, and crystal identified as a model BA2 (edited to add I Just found an identical Benrus Identified as a "BB4"). The case of that one doesn't have those nice lugs though. Even in relic non running condition with no band bids for that one are already climbing far beyond what I paid for mine. Mine is still dead on time .

PPS
After a full 24 hour test this watch is still dead on time to the second. Whoever last worked on it did a great job.
The Crystal shows signs of some heavy scratches and scuffs having been polished out, but thats to be expected and is a sign of a through restoration, either professional or by a talented hobbyist. I take it as a sign the watch received a proper cleaning and lubing in recent years. I'm not going to take the back off to find out, for fear of messing up a good thing.
I'm pleased as punch with this one. Along with my well worn Sod buster Fedora this "Old Man" watch has me looking my age in style. I really should wear my Uncle Jessie style bib overalls more often.

This watch would compliment my 1920's S&W Hand Ejector and my mint condition German Eye pocket knife. Throw in the Dupont of Paris field glasses and I'm ready for come what may.
Just remembered I have an ancient electric razor given me by a friend years ago. It still works. Instead of an on and off switch it has a small wheel you spin with your thumb to spin up the motor. To stop it you just halt the spinning wheel with your thumb. that's got to be an old one.

This just in...

I'll have a few days of getting acquainted time and then have the dial replaced with the Mitsukoshi.

Came home from a conference to open some nice packages.
From Casa Dre:
Gallet Multichron Pilot 12 HR on Nostime Barenia Leather..

Two more Nostime straps... these really are very high quality. See Dre's post on the deal.

And a Victorinox case knife from my favorite Independent!

Not a widely collected brand but this specimen just oozes so much old world charm - copper dial, blued hands, a red date pointer and a ladder style bracelet. And the 36+mm SS case doesn't hurt either.

As charming as the bracelet is with the watch, I’d change it. It doesn’t look comfortable.

Really nice face. Love to see inside.
