Hi

A very nice Lemania indeed!
Congrats on a great pickup!馃憤

I have collected serial numbers with confirmed purchase or dedication dates.
Yours I would date to 1954-1955.

The dial design is very interesting. I have never seen a black version with that pattern before.
What I do have is a cal 4651 Automatic with a similar pattern in silver.

The ref 280KO appears also in my 1956 catalogue.
It came in A-Acier and KO, Gold on Steel.

Note that the reference number is a case reference only. Lemania had a modular and small scale production. You may find a great variety of sweep seconds and sub seconds movements (3000 family) and dial variants for the same case ref.

Prices in GBP 1956.

And my 4651 Automatic.

Cheers.

Amazing info @Northernman 馃榾. Thank you for that, it puts this design right about same year as my Constellation. Very interesting that there is so many various dials for the same Ref number or case number to be more precise.

Your silver dial is exactly same design as my black dial. The case design on the other hand , seems to be pretty "common". In fact I found one on the local auction today with the same case (a bit more woren out). This one has a quite nice waffle dial. Next is to hunt down original crown 馃榿. If you possible have one plz let me know. Pink gold doesn't make it easier to find correct crown.

Again, thanks for the great info and interesting photos.

Cheers, Kapka

I have this 2577-11 SC incoming as of yesterday. Will need a service before daily wearing but I love the dial, which appears all original.

Took a flyer on a cheap Rotary Maximus from the 40's. I'm a sucker for vintage Rotary watches, I just don't know why.
Advertised as chrome plated case and good time keeping.
Turned up all stainless which I suspected with a nice Revue Thommen 76 gilt finished movement.
Loads of service marks on the case back and keeping perfect time.
I polywatched the crystal, quick clean, stuck it on a Lizard strap I had kicking about and over the moon!
If it was always that simple.

So many watches based on Lemania... why not a Lemania?

Caliber 3010, about 1952. Rose gold over steel, much like Omega. Copper movement... much like Omega. Just stunning to wear... much like Omega. Fluco Horween #8 cordovan strap, much li... er, nice strap! Needs some conditioner. Sold by Gisbert Joseph in Spain. Import duties and fees, $25ish, so not bad. Very happy with it!

Tom

Edited to add: duh, plenty of Lemania here, so nice to see. 馃榾

I couldn't resist the charms of this septuagenarian Fab. Suisse 30T2 with its plume hands, chapter ring and fancy arabics all finished in a nice rosy-copper colour. The case isn't bad either 馃榾

I picked up a 1997 issued CWC for little but I also bought the one below for 拢140 ... as always, because I liked it. I vaguely knew the name but it's just "different" and has a quality feel.

So, what is it? Wish I bloody knew!

Winegartens were a jewellers and maker of bespoke watch cases. Watches made to order. I can't get into this damn thing, though, and I have no intention of marking up the case. Phil can have a go at it. Winegartens made watches certainly from the 1930s through to the 1980s and possibly later. They had a collaboration with Nivada for movements but would usually make the cases themselves. I really want a peek under the hood to see what's inside ...it's bugging me.This case just seems different enough to have been bespoke: the lugs are attached to the caseback; the case doesn't appear to be hinged but there are little "bumps" at each end. The arabic numbers are a little different too. I suspect it's 1950s but harking back to the 1930s. Or maybe the other way around? A nice touch is it still has the original crown. At the price, I've paid 拢40-50 more than the gold value .. I can live with that for the bit of fun it will bring.

Oh, by the way... I am also now the owner of a 1793 pair cased, English, fusee pocket watch. It's with David for a full assessment. When it's been breathed on I will share that with you all as well.

In other words, you did very well with that watch. Worth more than double what you paid for it.

Just got this, not the watch, but the box.

However unfortunately to small for this model, and any men's model.

Any idea to which watch this box may be?

Thanks

I picked up my newest acquisition this weekend and am enjoying it immensely so far. This is the Ming 17.01

A small micro-brand recently started by a world-class photographer, whose work I have admired for many years, only 150 of each dial were made and I unfortunately missed out when they first came up for sale as they sold out in a matter of minutes.

I got lucky recently and found one for sale for a reasonable price and jumped on it.

The 38mm case is made of Grade 5 titanium and houses a hand wound Sellita movement. The dial is made up of three separate sapphire components and really rewards repeat viewing. It can go from flat, deep black to reflective and detailed, depending upon the angle of light.

It鈥檚 case and dial are both highly stylized, so not to eveyone鈥檚 taste, but it鈥檚 singing to me big-time.

There鈥檚 a great write-up by Jack Forster if anyone鈥檚 interested in learning more about the story behind the watch:
