My 13 year old daughter has shown an interest in vintage lately, so she asked me to take her around to the local vintage shops today. I gladly agreed and during many hours of trying on and buying various vintage pieces of clothing, we stumbled across this cheap watch. A Candino Yachting, which I can’t find any information so online as it’s obviously not valuable or ‘collectible’. It’s nothing special, although it loosely qualifies as ‘Swiss’, but it is a Panda dial and she knows how much I love my Panda. Anyhow, if the $22.50 CAD I spent on this can pull her ever so slightly into this watch hobby I’ll consider it a great ‘investment’. Even if it doesn’t, the time spent with her today was great, so that made it worthwhile regardless. This dial is quite scratched (Polywatch had little to no effect so it must be sapphire...?) but looking at the sub-dials with my 2x loupe they have nice concentric rings.
So, in 1955 a bunch of countries got together and decided to have a little jaunt off to see the sights in Antarctica. Along with various scientists, the US Navy sent "Task Force 43" who provided security for the group along with logistical support. They were issued with chronometers commissioned from Nivada that were waterproof, antimagnetic and able to work at extremely low temperatures. A bit like this one: I've just got around to removing the steel mesh bracelet and the previous owner's DNA before finding that I'm out of Polywatch. The dial's lovely underneath. The caseback is covered in service marks and it runs like a train. So, if you want an alternate Explorer for less than the price of a decent lunch (no wine) ... this ain't a bad choice. I've got a spare new strap kicking around that might work ... or it might be too similar a colour?
Didn’t I just saw this in my IG stream? Love the lume less dial and hands as the normal lume is always a bit wonky. Congrats
Nice yellow gold integrated crown connie, the omega movements from the 60s were better than Rolex, so you have lost nothing.
Did a thread about it all ready but it is incoming should get it next week Got it as a birth year watch and 1958 a hard year. Wanted one that had a fair price and was not beat up. And the papers and box prove the year. A seller can say 1958 manufacture but some times there off.
I just bought these 2 natos straps made buy a young artisan in Tuscany. A great guy and a really nice person. Definitely not expansive and outstanding quality of the leather.
These are beautiful. The finish and quality is very high. Nothing like Tuscan leather work, though “not expensive” is usually not linked to Tusacan!
And that’s exactly why I posted both of them here. For the price. The guy is new to the business, he’s passionate and very young so he decided to keep the prices low. Consider that when you buy some Italian leather goods, the price a are high mostly for the name. Check out Colareb. A small family from Rome, Vera Palle, outstanding finishes and affordable prices.
