So the back story: An event is taking place later this year ( more details in Nov) and a friend who is a big part of this (I am solely responsible for his current watch affliction) suggested a low budget 'challenge' watch for this. I'd been mulling something a bit dressy, but then decided on different. Having seen this little fella a few weeks back I swung back around in my thinking, and after an excellent buying experience with @Mouse_at_Large here we have the 'challenge' watch. More details in November I shall now stop spamming the place with this picture.
I have been looking for a black dialed dress watch at a good price. Today it arrived, with a Gruen from the same seller: The dial of the black Benrus looks matt through the crystal, but quite glossy & patinated when bare. Both watches have great sharp cases, so I'm stoked.
My new beater watch Tissot Antimagnetique Jumbo from the 50s or so. Case is beaten up and chrome missing but dial and hands so shiny Anyway I love it and now have a no regrets vintage beater watch.
Eberhard automatique (bumper) probably around 1950 Sharing (only) case design and bezel with the elusive scientograf Wondering about movement, can't find much ressemblance from bumpers listed in ranfft seller's picture
Bought this off the bay - had been thinking about getting a black or blue dial, then this one popped up really cheap - I liked the dial colours and patina...
This one just arrived over the weekend. With a new crystal and a good service it should clean up nicely!
Bought last month but it arrived today. A couple of packets from Switzerland................Woo Hoo! Quickly opened the first one. WTF, looks like a Valjoux 7750? That's not what I ordered! Even faster I opened the second one. Whew, all my precious bits. So now I almost have the parts for my new watch, just waiting on hands from France before I commence assembly. (I may seek guidance from @Mad Dog or Hanna, I hear they're great guns on the 6498 ). And now I have to sort out why I got sent a Valjoux 7750. An Easter gift?
Could be a computer glitch, best check your credit card account to make sure you weren't billed for it. In other news the NOS Pobeda I ordered awhile back finally got here today and its everything the seller described. It came with a factory box, a small one that holds only the watch without a band. I've read that the Soviets watch factories always delivered watches without a band installed. I guess they left that up to local jewelers or retail outlets. The watch has no scratches that one could see with the naked eye unless held inches from the eye and the light was just right. I figure any handling marks are just from shifting about in the factory box when moved around over the decades it lay around the shop. Theres one very tiny scrape at the inside base of one lug, possibly where someone slipped with a spring bar tool. It was visible in the seller's photos but nearly invisible in real life. In any case not noticable when a band is present. A 10 hour run test shows it to be dead on the money so far. I'm very very pleased with this one. Especially since I won it for the princely sum of $31 USD with free shipping from Bulgaria. Re posting the seller images
Got this nice and rare Enicar Sherpa Dive from April 1964 yesterday: After some love, cleaning, crystal polishing and replacing of the (silver) red ring, I am satisfied with the result Nico
Pleasant purchase this afternoon over a beer and some serious watch nerd conversation. EP40-68 Gallet Multi 12 ..36mm absolutely Mint. Could not resist.
