Treated myself to a custom Horween shell cordovan strap (Color No. 8) from @Myron of Rover Haven Straps for my Speedy. Great communication! He helped talk me through picking out every detail. Now just can't wait till it comes in the mail and makes its way onto my speedy!

Two little sweeties came to me this weekend for £10 more than the scrap price of the gold one ...

The Garrard is in 9ct gold with an ETA 1280 17j engine and dates to 1956; the ladies driver is more intriguing - the case is made by Fauvette and my brief research says they stopped making watch cases in 1880. It's got a sweet cloisonne enamel back and a swiss cylinder escapement movement that doesn't carry any visible name. Both need to be introduced to a cape cod cloth and want a service ... then we'll see about finding them a new home.
Just thinking that antique ladies watch is so unusual that I suspect most people would dismiss it as some modern fashion watch and think it probably just needs a battery.
I'm not saying it looks cheap, far from it, it's just so off the beaten path that few would realize its true value at first sight.

No new purchases but finally got my Slava in the mail. It looks great and apears to keep time just fine.
The dual main spring drums make this a easy and precise winder. The feel when winding it is down right pleasant.
The bezel did pop off and it appears to be a press fit for appearance only, I found nothing to indicate a C spring or other method of holding it down. I used a bit of blue lock tight to secure it. Rock solid now.
The bezel has scalloped edges and is deeply countersunk into the case. The tapered edges make it unlikely to snag on anything.
The bezel had looked to be plated plastic but I found it to be an unusually heavy cast metal of some sort. The plating tapers off from bright on the surface to graduated shadow effect on the sides, increasing the perception of depth. Very striking coupled with the black dial and besides the roman numerals there are markers that look like tiny rhinestones, small and unobtrusive. They may be faceted bright metal rather than glass.
The band is constructed somewhat like a Casio metal band. I had to remove three links to get a good fit.
Sits steady on the wrist and comfortable enough that I can forget I'm wearing it.

A nice enough watch, nothing grand but presentable. Much nicer than any of their more modern products.

I'm single handedly starting the fight to bring back ladies' watches by reminding them how wonderful and unique they can be. Antique watches on modern, hand made, straps after being fully cleaned and serviced. So far .... It's not going well 😉

Not so alone my friend.
First really great ebay find for me was a Bulova 1963 gold finished self winder I picked up for my sister. The original gold band came with it but was far too small for her wrist so I ordered a calfskin band to put on it.

If I can ever remember where I stashed my late Mom's jewelery box I'll dig out her pre WW2 rolled gold Bulova and fix it up for sis as well.

Now just need to find decent bracelet....

Nice and sharp case 👍

Here are my most recent purchases: A lovely Tell with some funky numerals on a orange-salmony colour dial 😁

...And an addition to the 14.3XX sub-collection, a cheap "beater" Constellation ref. 14.381 in an unpolished steel case with some nice champagne patina to the dial.

Here alongside its mates:

Received a 16mm genuine leather watch band for my little Tower gent's watch.
The small grey Boy's size band is next to it.
Note the buckles are very similar, though not entirely the same. I may make a metal keeper like that on the original band later on.
The band is very comfortable and cheap at 5 USD with free shipping.

PS
This little watch has kept near perfect time for several days now. It couldn't be off by more than a few seconds per day. These have a very nicely marked out regulator and are relatively easy to adjust.
A very simple yet sturdy and useful time piece. The Kalashnikov of vintage wrist watch movements.

Just as I found it a few minutes ago. I picked it out of the bin, wound it and it started running, so I bought it. After spending all day Tuesday checking out over a dozen pawn shops and antique stores for Omegas or Longines and coming home empty handed, I run into the local thrift on the way to pick up my daughter and I find this very 70's C case Caravelle, by Bulova for $5.28 out the door. Cheap, but my first buy of 2018. It won't scratch the itch for long, but if it keeps time, it will be a good manual laborer work watch. I have never thought I cared for this shaped case, but now I will get to wear an inexpensive one and find out on the cheap. Good luck pickin' out there.

Mck

After a little poli-watch and some of my wife's jewelry cleaner. If this keeps accurate time, I think it may be leather worthy.

Nice! I love these 70's models and this was one of my targets for years, I never managed to find one and haven't seen one for sale for a long time. Now yours appears and have you seen this one on Ebay?

This just arrived in the mail.

It was inevitable that I'd end up with a watch from a company started by a Jones 😀

Arrived today, IWC Cal 852 from around 1956.
As usual for me with watch coming from Japan, seller are so conservative that watches are always much better than expected.
Already on its way to Rob Horan @Horlogerie for a due service

I bought this beauty today, my first Flightmaster.
The pushers and hands are changed, but luckily the seller had all the old parts 😀
