What exactly is that? When I ordered bunch of cheap children's watches as Christmas presents one I ordered was a dirt cheap Chinese clone of an 80's Casio digital. For $2 I just had to see if it even worked, plus it has a very nice looking metal link bracelet. Also ordered a $3 analog just to see if it looked as nice in real life as it did in the listing. Both these failed to get here before Christmas so I'm stuck with them for the moment. The analog came in the mail today. I was amazed at how nice it actually looks. Classic styling of a Men's dress watch, reasonable size, and beautiful silver satin finished dial. I'm sure it will self destruct in a week or so, but its one very nice looking watch with quartz movement with calendar. Even the band is uncommonly nice, a very realistic fake alligator material soft and pliable. Of course its not a serious watch, certainly not a collectable, I just figured some might get a kick out of seeing how nicely made this dirt cheap throwaway is. If it lasts a month I'll have gotten my three bucks worth out of it.
I was looking for an old Soviet piece when I settled on this 90's post Soviet Slava. Whats the story on your watch? Looks Digital Quartz but is it a licensed built Casio, Import, or a domestic design?
I picked up a couple of pieces here in the closing days of 2017. A Seiko Bell-Matic: The Bell-Matic is a chunky, solid little watch. Evidently there's a whole lot of movement in there. And I bought a Longines All Guard. The dial on this is patinated to a really mellow light amber, some freckling but you can see the beautiful original paint in the script. If you need a reference for a vintage Longines here it is.
I got it from http://stores.ebay.com/KELARAN-USA?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 I just did a search but they seem to be out of stock of this sharkskin band.
I really do like the old ivory patina of the vintage Longines. I was just thinking on that sort of evenly aged look on some fine old watches being superior to how they looked when new.
A late arrival from Santa December 1971 Seiko 6119-8490 with Green Bezel and khaki dial - I'm told it's a rare color as most are Blue or Black. Original Band too.... Keeping time but needs work on the day quickset, a not too uncommon problem with this calibre.
I'm really happy with this one, bought on Thursday and arrived at 08.00 this morning. Under the beat up crystal is an immaculate dial and handset, and as far as super compressors go I find the dial design on this one really appealing. Internal bezel turns really smoothly and the movement show signs of life. A service and she'll be good to go. The only downside I see is the name "Arsa"... no sniggering at the back please.
If my experience is anything to go by, this will be a fantastic watch. Sold the one I bought last year recently, but I know I will own more.
Had never heard of that company till now. There are a few military models on Ebay right now. PS Got three packages in the mail today. One is the neat little Ingraham vintage watch I ordered not long ago, very pleased with it and the fast shipping. The original leather band is in much better condition than I'd expected and the case looks great. The crystal looks a bit scuffed but should polish out. The size of the case would be big enough for a gents watch but I believe from the size and configuration of the band that this was meant as a Boy's watch, maybe 12 to 16 or so. Its not likely to have been marketed as a ladies watch, too utilitarian for that. The band is finished in a medium grey pebble grain that may be a patent leather type coating. Looks like it will fit my rather slim wrist with tongue in the very last hole, but I'll have to clean and soften the band before I can try it on. The next is the NOS complete wrist watch case with crystal, spacer ring, crown and screw in back I got for my watch building project. The third is the two dollar Chinese Casio clone, which according to the envelope actually came from Laos. Its not that bad, much nicer than I'd expected. I haven't had a digital since the 80's. Took awhile to find instructions for setting it on youtube. Very lightweight, I figure the case is plated plastic, the metal band is supposed to be stainless steel but feels too light for that. Very presentable and the numbers are easy to read, even has a weak light. to read in the dark but looks too far back to light the watch face effectively. Next time I get cheap watches for kids I'll look for these first. They come in brushed stainless and a nice gold tone.
