My mainspring winders turned up today. They where a bit grotty, so I bunged them through the ultrasonic and gave them a clean.

I decided to get a bit more serious with the watch photography so bought this in Berlin 😁 At €8 it is a serious investment and I am very happy with the results so far.

Well, it's fun to play around with and nice to have if I am going to sell more watches in the future. Not bad at €8...

Might need a little work this one...

It's a beat up, filthy dirty 2652 with a cal 354 in chewed up state, cracked crystal and wrong crown....but it does have quite an attractive hobnail dial with RG furniture and great potential. Here after a couple of toothpicks and a 5 minute Polywatch session, still quite a way to go!

After a lot of searching and help from forum members I've picked up a cool 166.088 with a 120 dial. It looks all original apart from the seconds hand which I'll change out.

I was about to order two straps from Nomos, but instead i got some horween leather, 9 sq ft of suede lining, linen thread, leather glue, a Stanley knife, needles and two deployant clasps.

All that cost around £50 less than two straps, and should be enough material to make 5 straps. Of course all my calculations are based on my time being worthless.

All for people trying things on their own, but this is a bit like saying you can service a watch based on watching some YouTube videos. Leatherworking is just as much a skill and art as anything else, and it will probably cost you a bit more than £50 to make it to the same level as whichever strap manufacturer makes it for Nomos. I'm sure you can make a strap eventually, but just don't expect the same results as a several thousand dollar machine stitching the leather and experienced leatherworkers applying the finishing. Hand sewing using a saddle stitch is a whole different subject.

Some useful tools to get the right finish would be a burnishing tool, something to punch the holes with before stitching, and possibly a skiving knife depending on how you want to handle thickness.

Good luck and hope you start a thread on your leatherworking journey. Would definitely be interested to see your results!

Just ordered this one from Jomashop. Wanted a decent beater/pool watch for summer use and @Jwit photos finally helped me pull the trigger. Thanks Jake!
