Not a watch but watch related...
My burgeoning watch addict son gave me that book for Christmas. It's a great book and an absolute wealth of knowledge.....duhhhh.😵‍💫

I think I am getting better at buying - unfortunately I have a credit card bill to prove it...

Ok...when I started flipping through my new "A Journey Through Time" tome I didn't expect to find one of my new watches in the first few pages. It seems my cheap eBay pocket watch purchase is from circa 1895 and could be one of the first gen Omega branded watches. (Or it could be a later re-release)

As I've mentioned elsewhere, my Tissot bakelite boxes have finally arrived, and along those beauties came a non-running Tissot. Normally I wouldn't buy anything not working, but I figured that I had more than a few with the same movement and since the condition otherwise was nice and the price reasonable, I bought it.

Here it's next to it's immaculate sibling, which IS a runner and one of my favourite watches 😀

Both are steel-cased, though the newer arrival has a screw down case back, which is a nice touch... Love both dials. It even came on a Gay Freres bracelet, which wears lovely. Nearly long enough to use as a belt, too 😜

I know this isn't a blood-stirring tale of the chance purchase of a chocolate dial Speedmaster, but I needed to share my enthusiasm. A shame that they are so cheap, as restoring it will never make any sort of financial sense. The quite small case isn't really up-to-date either. But I'd suggest that people looking for a way to dive into vintage watches (and 30-40's watches in particular) should have a look at Tissot for a budget alternative to more prolific marques.

What is this "financial sense" you mention?

Not a watch, but a clock!

Decades ago, in 1992 to be precise, I saw a brochure for an art exhibit in Montreal, "Design 1935-1965: What Modern Was", that showed a picture of a most beautiful clock of the 1930's Streamline design. That image was engraved in my mind. I thought then it was an one-off sculpture but it turns out that many were produced by the Lawson firm under the name Zephyr. This website offers lots of details on the design and firm.

Last week I found one on eBay in reasonable condition. It came alive after a cleaning and lubrication.

That's one of the best looking, eh, time-telling device I've seen on OF in a long while! Love it!

According to the "boss" I am not allowed to buy any new watch!
Sooooo frustrating.... I am sure many have the same issue 🙄
So I decided to do something about it..started looking in my drawers and found :
1- a Chinese stainless steel submariner style case
2- a longines black dial
3- 3 hands
4- a one dollar strap, etc.....
5- a Swiss ETA 2836
And here is my Frankenstein watch 😁
