My watch objective for this was to get a panda dial chronograph. Prices are too nutty so I took the plunge and got this... Thanks to Darlinboy for the source...
I got this summer for my wife,I know it is not yesterday but you don't buy a Rolex everyday Sent from Tapatalk Pro
It's been about 3 years since I last bought a 60's Omega tool watch, having spent the period 2011-2013 focusing heavily on them I had become a bit tired of hunting them and pretty much scratched most of the itches I had developed. I completely changed my direction and concentrated most of my efforts in the search for bumper Constellations and automatic chronometers of the 1950's. But over the weekend I just couldn't resist this one when it crossed my path. It's a 165.024 - 64 with a 2299**** serial number in pretty nice shape to my eyes. It came on an old leather strap which I quickly swapped out for a 1035/16's combo. The last time I had this .024 reference was a BT maybe 10 or 12 years ago which when I received my Extract for it turned out to have had a movement swap..........once bitten twice shy maybe, but after that I only went after the straight lug 300's This one had first come to my attention maybe 3 years ago when I saw it at a watch fair on the wrist of a hobbyist there and I had attempted to buy it, unfortunately unsuccessfully as I struggled in the very final stages of negotiation to reach a common price with the owner. As we all know this can on occasion happen and as painful as it might be sometimes walking away is the only course of action. Since then I'd seen it once or twice over the last couple of years, still having a soft spot for it and always complementing the owner on it and after talking to him during these years knew he was keen to keep it ( especially with the surge in values since 2013 ) Well a few days ago I saw it again and decided to give it another shot and fortunately this time we found common ground with the price....although I'll admit I did have to pay more than double of where our negotiations broke down last time, , but hey that's watch inflation for you I guess. Non the less, I'm pretty pleased with this one which has a lovely clean cal 552, very nice case lines and a good bit of character thrown in
Whilst hunting for BOR bracelet came across this on e bay Auction was about to end and it seemed cheap so took a punt and won it 1970 s watch - poor mans " almost perpetual" calendar which ran out of time in 2015 but given my eyesight it does not really matter .Rest of it works fine and it is a big lump of watch working well with no major scratches If the sticker in the box is accurate and it retailed at $79.95 then according to my inflation tables that equates to $356 today. My watchmaker will raise his eyebrows when I send it in for service but he is used to my waifs and strays approach to collecting
I received a strap from Bulang and Son for my latest acquisition. Fast shipping across the pond. Soon to be seen in toto on WRUW...
A couple of months ago I sold my Seiko SKX007 as it made me forget to wear some of my more expensive and better looking watches. Yesterday I regretted it again for the 50th time and pronto bought a SKX173 on eBay. I will probably sell it again because of reasons stated above and the buy yet another in 6 months.
This years second watch also happened to be a military watch, a British Army issued Hamilton W10 from 1975
And I walked in the door last night, glad to be home so I could sit down with the A277.... when the doorbell rang with a "present" from FedEx. It's a sickness. Thanks to Darlinboy for the help on this.
A white engraved bezel New Yorker from about 1930. This is a super sharp original example from a collector friend, an upgrade from a similar one I had for years and which I recently sold to a much younger (newbie) friend as an engagement gift from his fiancee. He's pleased, I'm pleased...
