Not really sure what I have here. Haven't really been able to find anything about this brand yet. But it was cheap so I won't be upset either way. I liked the indices and there's a nice subtle patination going on beneath that nasty crystal.

This aviator (presumably RAF) 30T2 came today. I can't believe the condition. Can anyone help decipher the case back engravings for me? In particular H.S. I know what the broad arrow means, natch.

Edit: H.S. stands for Hydrographic Survey, as a helpful enthusiast at mwrforum just informed me.
I like those HS8s!
I got mine some weeks ago:

Last two pictures are from Wesolowskis book on military time pieces.
The price guidance is unfortunately not valid any longer....

It finally arrived. My Lemania 13CH has already featured as my Avatar for some time, but it took some time at the spa before making it back home.

Quite cool to send of a relatively neglected, early 1930s, chronograph to the watchmaker, and find that the movement only needed a lube, clean and a mainspring to function well again!::psy::
(Of course the gentle hand of a fine watchmaker is also key to success!)

I try from time to time to see if I can make out the watchmakers service marks in the casebacks. I already had a clue to where it had spent its time since I bought it from a guy in Berlin who again had inherited it from his grandfather.
There is (at least) two marks to be seen:

12.40? December 1940 I would guess. That would fit well with a "first" service interval.
The second one also kind of confirms that it also remained in the same area:

Having trouble reading the first name/word, but the last one surely is Berlin, and the 7.53 would fit well with August 1953.
No later marks was found, and so it is not unlikely that it has remained "untouched" until I picked it up earlier this summer.

When I bought it the case had a bad dent to one side. However as the case is solid silver (well actually a 0.900 quality) it could be remedied.

Mitka from WatchGuy contacted a local silversmith, and he did the repairs to the case. Carefully straightening and filling in the dent. Not to perfection, but to a degree consistent with the rest of the watch. Perfect IMO.

The Lemania 13CH would also be known to Omega collectors as the caliber 28.9CHRO. The first movement from Lemania built to be used only in wristwatch chronographs. It was launched in 1932. According to Omega they then used it as the 28.9 from 1933 and onwards.
It was delivered in parallel with the (originally pocket watch derived) caliber 15CH / 33.3.
The 33.3 was continued as the cal 222x for military watches way into the 1960s. The CH13 was replaced by the CH27 in 1942. Also known as cal 320/321.

I can assure you will see more of it馃槈!
Now to find a good 18mm open ended strap to fit......

Congratulations!

That's a very nice looking watch. Seems like private label / store brand?

I didn't technically purchase this. Rather, I received it as a gift for a deal i had been outright begging for, for almost 6 months. The seller felt sorry for me!

It's a very cool winder from the 1930's - it's a rather large case @ almost 38mm and 18mm fixed lugs.

Ah, Hydrographic Service. Mine also has fixed wire lugs (like yours). I have no idea how to determine the alloy of the case, but mine has practically no wear and no corrosion, so I suppose saw little service.

Yours also has a very high issue number. Perhaps been kept unused in stock until sold to the public?
It is in an unusually nice condition!
Congrats馃憤

Why don't Omega reissue these watches again in same sizes. There is a great interest in these models again amongst watch lovers.

I first heard about this brand from my uncle who is an aquarist. However I had never seen them in stores until today...
From their website: "Inspired by the look of venerable explorer watches, our watches are designed to mirror vintage timepieces with modern design features and are fully equipped to both stand out and weather the demands of a modern lifestyle."

The company also donates a small portion of each purchase to the Marine Conservation Society, which was what helped me decide to buy it. Have to save the planet on dollar at a time.

Some specs on the watch:
Name: "Barra"
-100m water resistance
-39mm Stainless Steel Case
-20mm Lugs
-7.8mm thick
-Sapphire Crystal
-Miyota Quartz Movement

I am truly blown away at the quality of this watch. It has a very hefty feel to it and wears very very comfortably on both the suede and rubber bands as well as the black mesh bracelet. It also has a fantastic wrist presence while still being subtle and simplistic.

I feel that this watch is a great value at its normal price of about 200USD. I was lucky enough to find it on sale for 100USD. Overall a great watch that is very affordable.
