=( .... this... it was listed as spares and repairs but i forgot to bring my time machine to work today so not sure if ill fix it maybe later (or before? time travel is confusing) but im pretty certain that cant be saved "spares and repairs" ...
actually the weird thing is the case is fine bracelet is fine dial is fantastic super bright super clean (bar some dust) so how the HELL did the movement get like this without effecting the rest of the watch! like acid fog?
I've been looking for a nice one of these 1949 models for a long time. Finally found one! Should arrive next week.
no but like crazy super fine so you can see the case? plus dial (now attached) its not been cleaned yet so you can a little "rust dust" encroaching but this will simply brush off. and this was hidden by the case.. it WAS a spares and repairs ebay purchase tho, NOW im sure the buyer DID know.. (back case screws were quite loose) but i thought i was on to a winner! simple service and i have a £1000+ watch, job done. worst case scenario sell for parts (case, dial, movement (even not working still great for parts), links etc) but i have NEVER seen an example where the movement is this messed up with no evidence of major abuse to dial or strap / case... like it was underwater!? sea water?... maybe it was like a metal detector find? =) Sorry back to my original point.. case looks good dial great strap great a total surprise to find THIS rust blob inside.... i have seen it before on say a 100 year old buried watches in a shed but not on a 10 year old Cartier! what a surprise!... in the worst possible way, just goes to show... you can still "not know it all!"
Ordered this vintage style Bond NATO from Watch Gecko last Friday from the UK, and it arrived in Canada today! I quite like it!
Looks like this Tissot Seastar Sonorous will be a bit of a project. I bought it despite lousy and few seller pictures on fleaBay. Seller mainly dealt in yardsale stuff and this piece was not very expensive so I took a chance - have I mentioned I'm a sucker for alarms? The case was really dirty and still needs serious cleaning. Grunge around the crystal I can't get off. There's a scratch (aarrgh!) at 7o'clock on the case and the dial has some weird funk around some of the hour indexes. When I looked inside I found no service marks so it's definitely going off for a basic C&L and I'll try to clean the case up then. The alarm is 'discreet'. I know a lot of members here like big watches but I'm comfortable with anything 33mm to 35mm or so but I have pieces bigger and smaller I like to wear. This one measures 34.5mm and if anything it is a bit thick @ 14mm but it rides well on my wrist. I think I'm going to buy a padded sharkskin band for it.
That looks like a fun project on a nice watch. A padded band will complement the somewhat thicker watch. Is it gold filled? If I really liked the watch, it would be hard for me to stop refurbishing it...no matter what the value. ;-)
Just wear it and enjoy. I have a 7 1/2 inch wrist and still wear and enjoy my 36mm Zodiac Aerospace GMT.
