Done good!
Hello, I have received the watch. While I found that the second hand moves not very continuously, not like a modern one, sometimes smaller but quicker jumps, sometimes otherwise. The dealer explains that's because the old calibers are "low frequent".

Is that a common sense on vintage watches?

Thanks.

I had a Constellation that had what sounds like similar issues with the second hand juddering between 12 and 3. My watchmaker diagnosed it instantly as a common, easily fixed problem and charged me surprisingly little to repair it.

I have a senior watchmaker done the job, not expensive. I hope this pic can be helpful for anyone who sees a similar problem of the not smooth second move.

This part is loosen amd the repair takes less than 5 mins.

Fine for you you!
Did you have to negotiate to avoid a full service in order to remove that dirt that we can see on the picture above ?

I did not order a full service and the watchmaker told me it could be fine for years. I shall keep it this way for now.

Somewhat astonished that a "senior watchmaker" would call this movement okay...

Clearly very dirty, 4th wheel jewel is contaminated...for sure the friction spring repair is a simple fix, but the chances this will be fine for years is slim IMO...I would budget for a service in the not too distant future.

Cheers, Al

yes I agree with Al that that watch needs a good cleaning and lubing.

however i'm calling first dibs if you want to off it for the $770 you paid and avoid that costly service bill 😀

oh...and lotus_eater...I want your seamaster too.
