Thoughts on this vintage Constellation?

Hi everyone,

I’m new to the forum and just stepping into the vast vintage Omega world, so I do apologize if anything I’ve posted is redundant or incorrect!

I’m interested in getting a vintage pie-pan Constellation for myself and tried to read up as much as possible, but one line in this forum stuck with me that was along the lines of “ask [the forum] before purchasing, it’s cheaper than getting a fake/franken” - wise words from knowledgeable people. So I would like to know your opinions on this Connie I am interested in (photos attached):

https://www.chrono24.ca/omega/const...nty--id14098205.htm?SETLANG=en_CA&SETCURR=CAD

Cal: 564
Year: 1966
Serial: 24253991
Ref.: 168.005
Dial: “original dial and hasn’t been touched or refurbished” (dealer message)
Case: Gold/Steel, dog-leg lugs
Crown: Omega signed, but not decagonal
Bracelet: “original beads of rice bracelet” (listing), plus aftermarket new “Omega” leather band
Glass: replaced (likely not Omega)
Condition: “Very Good” worn with little to no signs of wear. Fully serviced with seller’s 1 year warranty.

I messaged the seller for more detailed photos wondering if the dial has actually been untouched as the pie pan and minute markers look a bit off to me. The listing says it’s in very good condition but is noticeably worn and likely polished as seen in the softening of the lugs and case. I prefer a sharper and unpolished model but that’s probably 2x or more my budget, so I don’t mind something that is more worn.

If the dial is the real deal as the seller claims, is $2000 USD/$1800 Euros steep? I’m working with Canadian dollars so our currency makes it even more expensive to purchase. Would love to know your thoughts and recommendations for other places to keep an eye out for vintage connies to purchase!

Thanks for your help 😀

A very tired watch with a refinished dial.

If this seller claims the dial is original he/she is telling “porkies”. As you rightly note the minute ticks are all over the place and should not cross over the pie pan edge.
As most dealer know full well what they are selling I would avoid completely.

succinct, to the point and accurate.
good that you asked here because it's a dog of a dogleg.

@mluz_05 if you have $2,000 to spend, you should be able to find yourself a really nice dogleg pie pan with a bit of patience.

I like the fact that they start inside the facet edge at the top and then slide outside at the bottom.

Patience and persistence will likely be the determining factor here on whether I get a good vs great watch - let’s hope I don’t give in too quickly!

That is one of the worst I have seen in a while. For all the reasons mentioned above.

The bezel is wrong/fake too...

I thought the bezel seemed a bit off with lots of weird wear/dirt around the glass, thanks for pointing that out - I wouldn’t have known it was a fake! I have so much yet to learn 👎

I'd like to see the inner case back - have you seen the gouges on the bridge? 😲

Starting to think this dial wasn’t initially pie-pan and someone with a hammer and a unsteady hand tried to make it so

I don’t have a high resolution photo of it, just one from the listing. But I didn’t even notice that until you pointed it out!

Seems I should have posted this in the worst redials or watches to avoid thread instead of asking if I should have purchased this! Ah how naive and scary first time watch buying can be 😬

At least you did the right thing and asked first which cost you nothing. Lots of folks ask later and get that horrible sinking feeling.

Omega forums came through - Thanks everyone for your prompt and highly knowledgeable replies!

My trust factor from dealers when purchasing now has been obliterated, either trying to take advantage of newbies like me or just really unknowledgeable in their own product (unlikely, so more the former).

Thanks for keeping me vigilant everyone! Humbled by how much I need to learn, but we ride on ::psy::

"As you can see from the images above the original dial has been untouched."

Not every dealer is ignorant, a villain or both! About 5% of them are actually ok.
