i'd break the sound barrier running away from the sort of double think we're expected to all subscribe to in case we offend someone

When no offense is meant, and someone is offended for no apparent reason (other than it suites them/they choose to etc), I find that extremely offensive...I call that the ‘offensive impasse’.

I find the pretense of being offended by everything to be highly offensive.

For some reason I'm reminded of something my dad used to say. When he believed some politician was trying to sell a bill of goods he'd say " if that's true then I'm a Chinese airline pilot".
In the late 30's , while the USA was still trying to stay neutral, aircraft companies trying to sell multi engine bombers to the Chinese brought in a lot of Chinese pilots and trained them to fly multi engine aircraft at the schools used to train airline pilots. They even wore airline uniforms.
Everyone knew what was going on, the Japanese were certainly not fooled for a moment.
In the Korean War the saying evolved to "if that's true then I'm a Chinese Jet Pilot", because many MIG pilots our forces faced in combat were actually Russians.
I'm sure many these days find these sayings "offensive" or "RACIST" (BTW "Chinese" is not a race, it's a nationality) without for a moment wondering where they came from.

For all the talk of wokeness, snowflakes, social justice warriors, etc. it tends to be the people who are "not woke" (asleep?) who are doing all the complaining. The people most likely to cite "freedom" wanting others to conform to their ideas. It's downright ironic, but a little sad too.

And it's interesting how they'll take any opportunity to whine about it, even an innocuous thread about watch marketing.

Surely none, though I believe the "society uncomfortableness" is rather the other way around...

Society has no problems for girls wearing "boyfriend's jeans"... It is fashionable. I haven't seen any trends for men wearing "mum's jean" or "girlfriend's jean".

It is indeed a sale pitch, to sell more watches (to women)... It doesn't seem they are trying to pitch ladies watches to men.
Men where wearing women’s jeans about a decade + ago when skinny jeans first got popular.

The 25mm Ingraham I wear occasionally was marketed in three versions, mens watch, boys watch and ladies watch. The only difference in these was the color and length of the watch band. IIRC it was brown full length for men, grey short size for boys and white for ladies.
On another thread where someone asked about modern watches small enough for a slender male wrist I recommended a Orient Unisex which they apparently no longer make. It was basically a scaled down version of the Bambino.

I do not know why people are looking for some social justice warrior explanation here...

Women are wearing larger watches than in the past, and some men like the cleaner smaller look...

This kind of discussion... From either perspective, knee-jerk responses tend to hurt any real discourse. BUT, as to the above, I will say: cyclic trends.
When I was in high school, dudes typically wore 34mm to 36mm. This was the late 80s, Fossil LEs were all the rage, on the heels of Swatch. And chicks' watches were like freaking sundials. Everything was kinda hammy. Bigger hair, shoulder pads, etc... Bigger watches made sense.
This stuff...Well, they're just rebranding an old trend with clickbait-y marketing, and it seems to be working better than, "Wear a watch like yer mom did".
My two cents on pigeon holing genders ( since you asked - winky emoji ) -
Guys think they can buy into manliness - I'm looking at you, Gear Patrol - without earning the ...je ne sais quoi, that granddaddy had.
Every guy secretly loves a really real can-do girl. But you're not a really real can-do girl just because you drive a Jeep and wear a men's watch.
Those guys and girls are all the same, so they may as well be marketed to like they are.

Agree..

32mm ... 42mm with crown. 😜 It’s small medium and large.

The watch is killer diller. The monogram, however, is a very smooth appointment. Nice.

"With a large proportion of men's watches getting smaller and women's watches getting bigger, we feel that gender categories are now obsolete."

Quite hypocritical from Watchfinder & Co to promote the end of gender categorization on their website as social progress while they are themselves acknowledging they do it because they are not able to tell which is which...

I am not surprised by the study @Concretepuppy is talking about BTW. 1 or maybe 2 years ago, I saw a documentary about apes. They perform studies on them to try to identify what is a socially-induced in human behavior from what is a natural behavior. They gave them toy cars and dolls. Males played more with toy cars, females more with dolls... While toy cars should not be only for boys and dolls only for girls, a natural preference exists. There are plenty of other studies showing differences. For example, it is physically true that men have a better spatial awareness than women. It is due to the testosterone level affecting the size of the inner ear. The same difference was even detected in mice. On the other hand, women have a better smell. They better detect color shade differences while men better detect changes of contrast. Women also have a stronger left-right brain link... All of those differences are already visible at birth, and the list goes on.
Despite all the differences (socially-induced or natural ones), it does not mean one gender is better than the other. In fact, several studies show that companies driven mostly by men or mostly by women are outperformed by companies close to gender equity at their top management levels...

The biggest problem of current feminism is that is it not seeking equality. It seeks similarity. It denies any natural difference between the 2 genders. The 3 biggest combats today IMO are feminism, (end of) racism, environmentalism. I find it nearly funny how the 3rd one is all about taking care of Nature, and at the same time how the 1st one is completely forgetting about how Nature made us...

Regarding the 2nd one, it is a shame it still exists. It looks like a never-ending topic... There are fewer differences between a white man and a black man than between a white man and a white woman. In case of doubt, try to have a baby with someone of the same gender as you. 😁

As far as i can tell, people who wear watches are a dying breed altogether, regardless of their gender or what style they prefer. This argument was born out of a shitty piece of tabloid clickbait and boom, look what’s happened.

This Benrus was a man's watch in its day.
But honestly just too fly for a man to wear these days, so I gave it to my sister. Runs good, must have been serviced in recent years.

And just to make things even more interesting, if you have a look at google images under "unisex watches" i'd say 90% look like men's anyway, some with a bit more bright colours here and there, some of them are quite nice, i tend to prefer old worn looking ones, and these are all new, but it makes the original poster's title more apt, it being a non-story, obviously i've nothing against women wearing men's watches, it would be absurd for anyone to harbour a dislike of it, still, the 1200m PloProf would prompt a question though, but i'd still not judge a woman wearing one on anything other her character

Maybe it's the assumption that those who are considered to be asleep are silenced from airing their questions and starting a discussion about what woke actually means, which is what they find most patronising, i don't think most asleep people would want others to conform to their ideas but to be labelled as asleep because they don't agree with woke ideas doesn't leave a lot of room for an even sided debate, media and corporations who subscribe to the woke criteria and market their products in a non-gender way come across as cynical and cashing in on a market that is obviously there, and good luck to them, society has never remained stagnant, it's constantly changing but cancel culture seems to be stifling debate and stigmatising those who do want to discuss this new (quite sudden) change in society

To be clear, you can start any discussions you want. You can call out what you see as you like, but so can others. What some people seem to want is to be able to say what they want without consequences, as they have been able to do for a very long time. I can understand that this lack of freedom from consequences can be troubling for some, but I doubt it's going away any time soon.
