·Back to the point of this thread- Hamilton released their Pioneer Navy several years ago in 3 variations based on size- each is slightly different. The form factor is one of large dial, coin edge bezel, and wire “style” lugs. This style lends itself to smaller proportions as it’s all case and dial and no lugs to lend mass.
The 36mm was marketed as a ladies watch when it was released- its since been discontinued. This is the perfect proportions for this watch, regardless of gender. There is a balance on the dial- even with the date window (would have been stunning without it) and it’s just right on so many levels.
The 40mm is awkwardly large, the 3 and date window look crowded, the sub-dial too small and too high. They were trying to balance out the dial real-estate but it’s just too large.
The 43mm is just clownish. They were trying to accommodate the large watch trend, but just missed the mark by a mile. This thing should be hanging in the kitchen.
I believe certain watch styles lend themselves to specific scale and proportion- it’s about balance. Gender is all about marketing- not design.
Not sure what you're getting at here. Those Hamiltons are all the same size - I checked. Must be an optical illusion or just the different placement of date wheel, etc. And quite large at ~90mm.
That's Flavor Flav territory! 😲
