·Any time now, I am expecting delivery of a new 20 wrist watch storage case from Amazon. I have numerous wrist watches “triple parked”, waiting for a better way to be stored. Will one 20 watch storage cabinet be sufficient? We’ll see. Why do I wear two, and on occasion three watches simultaneously? The wrist is a good place to store them when you run out of space.

Having said that, I’m to the point where only something very special will draw out my wallet.
or parts... when you are regularly wearing hundred year old stuff that was rare when new, parts can become an issue so I’m not adverse to picking up the odd parts movement or spare bits.

The kids seem to prefer it but their phones are in their faces all the time so perhaps not so bad.

... and then look back up, return to the world around me, and realize that I still don't know what time it is.
So I don't wear my watches just to tell the time.
And in answer to the original question, no, I'm not done ... I just have to save for the next one.

·I know what it feels like to reach "done" in other hobbies. With vintage stereo- I had my sights focused on an illusive machine that had been out of production for 40 years, I bought roughly 8 turntables, all excellent tables- fully rebuilt and modified them to make the the best they were capable of, but then sold them as I acquired another- and the cycle continured. Finally, I brokered a deal with someone for a pair of these illusive beasts, all original and in full need of restoration, but cosmetically perfect. It took me a few months to get both where I wanted them
But after that- my compulsive shopping stopped- I had hit my goal- I haven't added another turntable (other than the random ones that follow me home every now and again) so the wanderlust is over. I have played with cartridges and cables and the like (the hi-fi equivalence of straps and bracelets) but the base tables are as I have had them.
Collecting watches for me had followed a different path. It was very scattershot at first, I have a few nice ones that I stumbled into 2 decades ago, but I would just pick things up that I likes- but or small, expensive or cheap- if I liked it, I bought it. After spending time here and learning what it means a to have a curated collection, I have begun to refine my collection to reflect not jut my taste, but my lifestyle.
I think when collecting, it's important to maintain a goal- a mission statement of sorts. Having focus allows you to pass on watches that may seem like a nice to have, but don't really add value to your collection as it stands. I love dress watches from the 50's-60's, but rarely do I have occasion to wear them- so why do I need 10? 2 will do fine for that category.
That said, a new addition can breathe new life into a collection. I bought a random watch I found pleasing and now have hunted down about 8 other models from the same maker during the same period. But that newly charged focus has allowed me to see how other areas of my collection lacked that focus and I either neef to augmented those areas of my collection, or abandon them.
I think saying your "done" if a good way of trying to convince yourself you have reached your pinnacle for collecting- but do we ever really feel "done"?

·I discovered watches in 2010, (more so, I discovered I could afford an interest I had had for decades) and within 2 years purchased around 30 watches, Panerai's, Heuers, Sinn's, Seiko's tho' predominately Omega tool watches..I sold a few.😟 Then, apart from the occasional tool, strap not a major purchase until last month 2020. (Below, pictured.) You could say I just enjoyed my collection/rotation. Personally, I still lived and breathed watches every day, but withdrew from the Forums’, online watch community, though still bought and sold a number of cheaper mechanical watches, for fun and an interest but no personal watch purchases.
My business involves dealing with people, and if I met you, you would have had your wrist checked. Very very rarely would I engage in a watch conversation, but there were those odd diamonds I came across. All part of the wonderment.
What I am saying is, in my experience, you don't have to be buying watches to be enjoying the hobby. It's a holistic thing. My latest purchases, apart from those that have assisted my move from “a bracelet guy” to a “strap guy,” have been a horology book, "Moonwatch Only" and a "Wischi Timegrapher." This hobby/obsession is multi faceted. Then again, all you need to do is to strap on the only watch you have.. and enjoy everytime you look at it.
One thing it has taught me, is that time is too short, so enjoy every 1/100th sec!

I've bought all kind of omega's in the last couple of years and I'm trying to figure out what's else out there. I'm considering focussing on 'lower end' brands with interesting design and history. Or maybe I'll be focussing more on utility/sport watches. The last two months I did'nt buy anything and that's quite strange. The local delivery man is worried and asked me the other day if something is wrong. 😁 Anyway, I'll be watching you to get some new inspiration. So dont disappoint me! 😉

·Just had a count up and I have 16 watches. For me this feels like too many and there are a few that sit in the box and are very rarely worn. Though it does include one that arrived on Monday so I guess I'm not done (yet).
I think about selling off 6 or 7 and buying a Rolex and a JLC. The problem with this is, it is a lot of value in each watch, making it harder to pick up something else that appeals and sell off something I don't wear very often to pay for it.
