Anyone else done acquiring?

Approximately five years ago, I purchased an Omega Darkside of the Moon and was bitten by the bug. I got a titanium 45.5 planet ocean on rubber strap one year later, and then a used 2254.50 from a friend about six months after that.

Since then, I have held steady and retained interest in watches. Almost 2 years ago, after not really feeling anything tug at me for a while, I put in an order for a white dial explorer two, primarily because I have nothing with a white dial and nothing with a GMT function (and it really caught my eye!) Just last week, I received word that it has arrived, and I will be accepting shipment in the next day or two. Because my interest has been somewhat waning, I thought I was done with this one.

Then, the same day I got the call from my AD, I found out from a very good friend that he has a 20 year old Submariner (16610) sitting in his closet, which he purchased 20 years ago. used to wear it all the time on wall street. now never does. never.

So, I think if I end up with my buddy’s sub, I’m done. And happy with it all.

We read so much on this forum about people who can’t stop acquiring. (Or don’t want to)

Is there anybody else out there who has gotten to where they are happy with their collection and they’re just done?
Here are all the actual watches:

I’m very happy with my collection, and while I am almost certainly not done, I’m 3-5 years away from another addition.

I definitely know where you're coming from. Once I bought my Speedmaster I was bitten by the Omega bug. Since then I sold off every other watch I owned that wasn't an Omega and became a fanboy haha. I searched around for a railmaster and seamaster to complete "my" trilogy, once I completed that I was basically done. I've always had more watches than I should and hardly wear some. This way here I have a watch for each occasion. My RM 2504.52 is perfect for a suit or shirt/tie, my watchco is my daily beater and the speedy I like to keep in mint condition and just take it out here and there to switch it up.

I think now that I have what I want I'm more into sourcing bracelets and straps than I am watches.

I was done, yesterday. About today, who knows! Never say DONE, that’s my motto!

I downsized when I retired, trading several watches for a PM one. Once a watch starts running poorly, especially if is not due for a service by the calendar, i evaluate trading. So I pretty much keep my watch numbers the same but change for something that strikes my fancy which seems to vary from time to time. Also depends upon how much disposable income is available at the time.

Re: bracelets and straps, you can spend big $ on Panerai straps.

BTW you have a splendid collection.

I dont understand this phenomenon where people hope to be done with their hobby.

Maybe you should try another hobby, self-flagellation? That would be fun to quit.

I'm done acquiring until I'm not done acquiring.... sometimes it's a new release, sometimes it's an old eBay find that strikes my fancy.

I'm ten years into retirement and every time I tell my wife I think I'm done collecting she scoffs at the idea. So far she has been correct, there is always something new and interesting.

This is not a hobby for me. I just like wearing Omega watches and knowing about them.

It seems like this question of acquisitions comes up often and people really struggle with it and want some kind of group catharsis like 12-step.

But this place is built on (enabling) collecting and thus my snarky comment. Acquisitions are the backbone of collecting. Its hard to have a passion about, say, wine, and your wine forum has people showing up talking about quitting drinking.

I understand your point. I don’t look for new watches as a rule because I have what I like and don’t like not wearing what I have. Why the Railmaster will be for sale. I like wearing my 2254.50.00 a lot more.

I’m curious whether there is a significant presence of enthusiasts vs collectors on any watch forum?

It’s actually pretty funny when you put it that way.

But in all seriousness, I get plenty of enjoyment just reading up on watches and living vicariously through other members purchases. I don’t feel I need to be constantly acquiring to participate. That’s just me though.

I can tell you there used to be significantly more collectors around this place.

There still here, they just don’t post as much or buy into the whole investment or flipping malarkey that is more prevalent Nowadays.
Stealth in acquisition is the key 😉
