I'm sort of back playing Hearthstone and Magic: Arena on ipad since I haven't had access to the room with my PC. While I like both of these, playing without paying for them feels sort of like walking into a casino in Vegas without intending to gamble. They know exactly the amount of addictive play loop to let you have before hitting you with some genuine frustration at other player's advantage over you for paying.

Probably some very talented behavioural science experts at work behind the scenes.

I spent a bit too much on Hearthstone back in the day. Was fun and rewarded being clever... but their moderation was terrible. I got frustrated with people messaging me death threats after losing.

Toxic communities are why I have tended to avoid multiplayer stuff

I've been playing it a bit.
I knew some tracks were being omitted, but what I didn't realize that pretty much ALL of my favorites are a no-show.
They have said they are bring back Nordschleife I think sporing of next year. So that's good. But I want Sebring, Road Atlanta, COTA, Long Beach...
I agree, it also seems annoying to have to level up a car in order to modify it. One of my favorite things to do in the previous games was to just "build" cars.
Perhaps some of these things will be addressed, it seems like pretty much everyone is having the same issues so hopefully T10 will address.
Other than that I'm enjoying the game. I do find the penalty system a little....random - as you said.
But the physics feel good and it is nice to have a newer selection of cars. I've been playing the last Forza for 6 years now (like everyone else) so it's nice to have a little more variety.

yeah, I'm only about 10% through career, didn't realise Road Atlanta had gone. I adored that track, easily my favourite. Give me those elevation changes over some boring flat airport based circuit where you struggle to even see the apex, let alone make it.

Never conquered Nurburgring, but it would be nice to have it back to have another go.

Road Atlanta and Sebring have been in each Forza Motorsport since the beginning I think. (Maybe not Sebring but definitely Road Atlanta)

That's BS... makes me glad I decided to pass on this one. Road Atlanta is my absolute favorite.

Still counting the days until WRC though, that is absolutely going to own my life for at least a year!

I can't even begin to imagine how many laps I've turned over the last almost 20 years is has been available to play on a Forza.
It is pretty much the main track I mess around on. I'm very much looking forward to having it back.
And I'm trying to plan a trip there with my brother in law and father in law in the near future! It's on the bucket list...
I realize it sounds very silly, but I've mastered Nordschleife in a video game, so I'm really curious to see how that translates to real life lol.
Sure I know every turn/apex, ideal lines, braking zones etc...but all the bumps and elevations don't come through in a video game!
The closest I've come to a direct comparison is Sebring. I have driven it hundreds of times on a video game, and once in real life.
But it's flat, and smooth (except for Sunset Bend) so I don't think it is a great comparison, only because there is nothing quite like Nordschleife.

Jeez, I forgot about Sebring. It's flat but I actually really liked that circuit.

I can only hope (though I hate the idea) is that they will pepper in the "lost" tracks over time as DLC.
I mean there is zero reason for them not to be there. Unless it is some sort of licensing issue, but I feel like that should really be a non-issue, considering.
I hate the way video games have shifted with all this DLC crap. I get that it was originally for add-ons, but now I feel like things are intentionally left out for this reason.
Not only do you have to drop $70 on a AAA title now, there is potentially upwards of another $100 to spend over the lifetime of the game.
I got suckered into Game Pass when I bought my Xbox, so I do get the base game for "free"...but still.
I paid like $30 or whatever for early access some car packs and "vip" status. And unfortunately if they make me pay for more tracks that I want down the road...I'm going to do it.
Assholes.

considering the expansive scope, asset base, complexity and production timelines for current-gen AAA games, limitless content for a fixed fee is just not a realistic expectation. And like you said yourself, if you have a bit patience today's hot release will likely feature on Game Pass/PS Plus 12-24 months from launch

I am a big soulsborne fan with Bloodborne being my all time favorite. I don’t have much time to devote to gaming these days but I did beat Elden Ring recently and enjoyed it a lot.

I get that and that is all well and good.
I'm speculating, but what I'm speculating is that they are purposely withholding content in order to make you pay for it later.
I have no problem paying for legit add-ons, but I just feel like this is the way things are starting to go.
Like I said, there was no reason for them not to include those tracks - since they've been included in every other release.
ALso, with Game Pass, they do give you the "good stuff" day one.
With Game Pass, I've downloaded Halo Infinite, Horizon 5, Starfield and now Forza all on release day.

Think you're 100% right. They're definitely holding back stuff for DLC. This is the first forza game I haven't bought VIP... yet. Thought I'd make sure it wasn't terrible first as I get the base game with game pass.

I guess time will tell.
But also from what I understand, there will be no more "new releases" of Forza.
From now on, they will just be updating and updating. Hence dropping the number and just calling it strictly Forza Motorsport.
So it will be interesting to see how this plays out over time...

Shows how out of the loop I am, had no idea about that. Interesting development, wonder how that will work in practice.

Good to see another Fromsoft fan. Bloodborne is spectacular. All of Fromsoft's games are exceptional in terms of art direction- but Bloodborne really stands out with the Lovecraftian touches to what looks like 1700s London. I'd say it's a favorite of mine, but they all are.

I also played Elden Ring multiple times and enjoyed it. Some of George R.R. Martin's earlier sci-fi, like the short story/novella A Song for Lya has some concepts and ideas that really fit right into the lack of clarity of good/bad that Fromsoft excels at. The mono-no-aware esque feelings of impermanence and subtle sadness the art creates is not something I've experienced with other games.

I've only ever played the original Dark Souls. Maybe I'll have to dig into the rest of the From Software catalog after I finally finish Baldur's Gate.

I would definitely advise it! Elden ring is the most up-to-date graphically and the combat is a fair evolution of what Dark Souls 1 2 3 and bloodborne built. It has a much more open world feel than any of the other fromsoft games and has some features that make it more user friendly.. perhaps approachable?.. than the Dark Souls games themselves. Totally worth it.

Sekiro: Shadows die twice is it totally different beast, it is essentially a rhythm game masquerading as a combat game. The game forces you to overcome bosses by learning their move sets, unlike the souls games which will often allow you to summon a cooperator, a spirit, or simply level up more to get stronger. It's, by far my personal favorite in terms of combat, but I am not saying it is the best- just very different.

I really, I really enjoyed Elden ring and cannot recommend it strongly enough!

Yeah, Nov 3 (or Oct 31 if you pre-order like I totally did)

Also - Forza has already updated the car leveling system based on feedback.
