Built this today with help from my good friend. He also advised me on the components, it’s basically his build. He’s much more in tune with this stuff than me now a days and I really appreciate his help. The build had a couple of hiccups, as they will, but went very smooth overall. This started as a wishful graphics card upgrade and turned into a brand new build. Bought the graphics card for a steal and also found a good Mobo, CPU, RAM bundle.

Now I just need to start gaming a bit more. We’ve been playing some Helldivers recently and my old PC could just about handle it. This thing will run Helldivers 2 no problem so that is already downloaded. May go spread some democracy tonight in fact. Hit me up @acoggs on Steam if you play.

Just received your post via email (via being subscribed to the thread) and it was timely as I just purchased a new GPU and monitor earlier today for our rig as I am slowly toeing my way back into sim racing and need more HP for a GPU and ultra - wide screen.

I am not much of a gamer, but I have been inspired to create a few simple videogames myself. I also posted this in the watercool thread, but yesterday I spent the day creating a video game yesterday for my daughter's friend who is blind. Well, I guess it is more of an audiogame, but there is an option to play it with video if you want.

As a videogame it is really simple, you control the red ship which can only move vertically on the screen. The enemy green ships come at you from right to left and you have to shoot them. Your ship makes a humming sound and the pitch changes with the vertical position. The enemy ships make a blipping sound whose pitch depends on their vertical position. If you are blind or playing in blind mode, you have to adjust your vertical position by matching the pitch of your ship's humming to the pitch of the enemy ship and fire. To keep it from being too difficult there are only two horizontal lanes (vertical positions) in which the ships can move in Level 1. As you move up the levels more lanes are added until there are 8 different lanes. After that the enemy ships start to move faster on higher levels.

I had no idea if my idea would actually work, but surprisingly it is actually pretty fun to play in blind mode. It is fun to engage a different sense. Anyone else have experience with non-visual gaming?

For a short time a long time ago, I played a game called Utopia that is a completely text based game. It is an online multiplayer game where you are part of a kingdom and attack other kingdoms for resources and glory. Every few months the age ends and the whole game resets and various attributes get changed up. It’s really pretty cool and still going.
