AFAIK, yes, because it failed the vacuum test.
Thought so. Don't think its worth it

I was following this thread, because I liked the idea of a thinner profile for my CK2998.

But I had already fogging issues with mine from just washing hands, that I got sorted under warranty. So after reading these latest reports I don't think it's worth the risk.

I have an original sapphire "Limited Edition" caseback in a drawer, from the times when you could buy these from OFREI. But there's no significant gain in terms of thickness, which is the main advantage of this aftermarket one.

Based on my experience the leak could well be in the crown/pushers, as those are the high-wear areas of the watch. I've had many a crown gasket give out on me prematurely on manual winders.

For me there's no turning back for a single vacuum test.
The difference is huge, now I find my Snoopy 3 uncomfortable in comparison to my (modified) FOIS.

One you try on the thinner FOIS, you'll never go back. The caseback is game changer in terms of comfort.

My thinking exactly…

@savka - Did you have your watch vacuum tested prior to changing the caseback?

When was your watch last serviced? And were pushers and crown replaced?

Watch was serviced <6 mo ago in Nov 2021 by Omega in Seattle. Crown and pushers were replaced. I assume it passed the vacuum test then.

Agreed. I think someone determined that the FOIS carried a greater proportion of its thickness in the caseback due to the deep engraving, with the Spiralwinder v2 shaving a full millimetre off the thickness. That alone is worth the price and when you add the visibility of the movement and the greater comfort from a smooth case back, it’s a no brainer.

I’m thrilled with mine.

Never really understood Omega’s logic when they designed the original FOIS deep engraving case-back. It even looks uncomfortable! Did they not test it before release?!

I’ve found this thread useful, so wanted to share my experience with Sprialwinder’s speedmaster display caseback.

Order placed 2 April, delivered to me in the UK on 13 April. The included 3D printed tools worked a treat, swapping the caseback from my 3570.50 was quick and painless.

I don’t have a timegrapher, but haven’t noticed any major deviations in accuracy over the past few days of wear. It hasn’t been pressure tested, but it’s never been the watch I wear daily or take near wear, so I’m not really concerned.

Did you ever fit a different caseback to reduce the height? I was having a similar thought about my CK2998 Pulsometer.

This is the case back I have, it's an original Omega I bought from OFREI back in 2003:

The story of reducing the height is a new thing. When I got the case back it was just to be able to see the movement.
I also have a CK-Pulse, and I tried a couple of days ago to install the sapphire case back just out of curiosity. And it did NOT fit.

I was pretty convinced that the CK2998 had exactly the same case as the FOIS, but maybe it is not the case ?

I measured the thickness of the case backs and the sapphire one is a good 0.5 mm thinner, but the outside diameter of the threaded portion is about 0.5mm larger than the stock case back’s. So this is not a tolerance issue, it is simply different/not compatible.

This is strange, because I have used this sapphire case back on a standard Speedy Pro from 1999. And it did fit just fine. So maybe it’s the case of the CK that is not exactly the same ?

After this experience I would be concerned that the after market case back might not fit the CK either...

I'm pretty confident is the same case as FOIS. So it should fit the same.

After a very long time, have just received the display back for my Speedmaster Mk2 from Thomas Preik. About 3 months, held up by getting mail out of Germany, but it was posted on time and you just have to wait. Just need to get a new gasket and can install it. Great service from Herr Preik.

I picked up a 3590.50 Speedmaster Pro a couple months ago and went to fit my Spiralwinder caseback on it and it seems to have the same fitment issue as pictured by OF member befobe. To be specific, the Spiralwinder caseback doesn't feel like the threads smoothly engage with the case. After some dodgey rotations it seems to rest with a gap between the case and the lip/flange on the Spiralwinder caseback, similar to the pic below.
It's strange because this exact same Spiralwinder display back was fitted to a different Speedy I owned and it spun right on (very smooth thread engagement) and sealed flush with the case (as seen on some of the pictures I posted earlier in this thread).

Any other 3590.50 Speedy owners have this same problem?

Bad news for me. Mine doesn't fit on the 105.012-66 CB case...
