Where are you located? We are a pretty helpful group on here, and depending on where you are, a local member in good standing on here or ebay may be able to help sell.

In regards to the dentist, have you gotten a second opinion? I only ask because when I lived in DC, I went to a dentist that wanted to do thousands of dollars worth of unnecessary dental work...crooked as hell. I saw his ruse and promptly told him to piss off.

I would list on ebay with a BIN Or Best Offer and see what you get offered...factor in the 13% hit.
I live in Raleigh, NC. The dental work has been confirmed by three dentist. The lowest was 15k and the highest was right at 20k. That's what I get for not forcing her to do 6 month check ups but she has a major fear of dentist in general.

First of all, sorry to hear about the unfortunate situation.

Secondly, ebay is probably your best bet unless someone who you know and trust who has more of an online presence can help you sell the piece. Factor in the hit. Do an auction with a reserve but a reasonable BIN price in line with previous auctions, and indicate what the reserve is in the auction description.

Third, I would try to sell it asap. All indications are pointing to Omega unveiling an updated PO line with master chronometer movements. Once that happens, there will be a flood of PO 8500 supply so used prices will go down.

Hope this and all the other helpful advice assists you during the tough time.

If things don't work out with watchknut, let me know. I've got a barber here in Wichita Kansas who would gladly pull all offending teeth in a straight exchange for your watch. There is also no extra charge for the cheap whiskey prior to getting into his chair! 😉

Do keep in mind, if you list it here on his behalf to do another end-run around our restrictions in the same way that this thread is, you'll be joining him in having no access to sell anything here.

Quick question, I see members selling watches for clients and friends fairly often on here, and they state that the watch is in their possession and they are handling the sale...is that not kosher?

If I handle all aspects of the transaction, from having the watch in my possession, receiving payment, and shipping, how is it any different from selling one of my own pieces?

Thanks for the input, as I don't want to do anything that is frowned upon--my intent is to help a mate out, as I would appreciate it if someone did the same for me in my time of need.

I don't want anyone doing it, the risks involved are too high and the complexity and difficulty it creates for us when it goes bad is extreme.

If the package goes missing, gets damaged, turns out to be stolen goods, if there is a warranty claim, if the buyer returns it for whatever reason, even if in your view you've already paid the original owner and your responsibility is over, you're the one that's eating it, and if it goes missing and you don't cover it in full its your details that will be handed to the police, not his.

This is the problem you create by doing something like that. We've already been down so many of these paths with so many people, that the last thing I want to have to deal with is a deal going bad when the only thing I have to go on from the original owner is a sad story and an email address.

The point of this thread was a simple one, what's the best way to sell this watch. He received good advice on that and has several decent options.

This is one of the reasons why I am so slow and careful to buy a nice watch as a companion for my speedy. I don't have a reputation in the online watch community so even if I had 200 posts here, I would likely take a hit. Ebay is another no go as I don't have any history selling things there in addition to their fees. I'll just enjoy the Seiko instead!

2 more seiko pics and you made your 200 😉

Craigslist can work well and is free to try. Aside from clear pics and straightforward description making it clear that you are willing to meet at a watchmaker or store so the watch can be authenticated and to ensure a safe transaction will help ally fears that will prevent potential buyers from inquiring about the watch. If you call around and find out what stores will provide authentication services so a potential buyer doesn't have to figure this out, this can help to.

After some great advice on listing on eBay without a lot of the up front fees I have put up my PO on eBay. If anyone is interested or has questions please let me know. Thanks to everyone for the great advice and wish me luck. The price is 3.900.00 OBO. Thanks again everyone.

When we were $10K short on a downpayment for a new house in 2005, we were allowed to borrow the money from our 401K and pay it back over 24 months, although we paid it off several months early. Then we didn't take a hit in penalties and income taxes, got low rates, and if the market were to drop we didn't take a loss in value due to a cash-out.

After deciding to sell the watch, I also would have used craigslist and set up the sale to occur at an Omega dealer if they needed confirmation (or a public place to be safe). I've had a few bad deals on eBay that cost me hundreds, and I read stories about people disputing to eBay "not as described" and then shipping back a brick to get a refund when they provide PayPal the tracking number.

I also got a UPS Store mailbox when I closed my medical practice (for patients to request medical records) and it's been helpful because they also serve as a witness when I unbox expensive watches in front of them to confirm that the item is "as described" on my end.

I think that is a great idea and very inline with the spirit of the forum.

I also keep a UPS store box, but it's more for security than anything else. Having staff as "witnesses" is an awesome free perk. They can probably notarize whatever issues you claim as well haha
