·I've got a 70's IWC coming tomorrow that has a mesh bracelet fixed to the case (no lugs) and I was hoping to get some ideas on how to clean it the safest way possible to avoid water getting near the case.

If you have access to an ultrasonic cleaner you can use a tall plastic beaker.
Fill the beaker with cleaning fluid to the same level as the ultrasonic tank.
Suspend the watch on the side of the beaker, lowered until the case is just above the fluid and clamped with a soft plastic clamp.
Run a clean cycle, then remove and hold vertically to dry the bracelet with an absorbent cloth and low air pressure.
Repeat for the other side.
