Rolex Explorer 114270, best way to fit a nato

So I bought my first Rolex, the Exorer 114270, 2 days ago and wasn't a fan of the bracelet. However, knowing that it's a strap monster, I thought I'd just put it on a nato. However this is very difficult because of how close the spring bars are to the case.

Can anyone recommend the best way to do it?

Also, here's some pics of my new watch.

Try a thinner strap, that looks like thick seatbelt material. You could also use a thinner springbar, but make sure the tips are not loose in the holes. But don't go crazy with it, you will get sick of the Nato strap pretty quickly anyway.

Try curved springbars. My local Omega boutique provided me with some for a NATO strap (different watch) and they solved that problem. The only issue is that since they’re bent, they might not be as structurally sound as a straight springbar.

Yeah, I had one thinner springbar in my collection of springbars that seemed to help a little bit. I live in Taiwan and I'm not sure where one sources thinner springbars.

Nice, I had no idea that Omega sold curved spring bars. I will ask.

I asked Omega, and they said “What kind of watch do you have?", obviously I couldn't say "It's for my Rolex", so I told them "Omega Speedmaster", and they said "curved springbars won't fit on that watch".

That salesperson obviously doesn’t know what they are talking about, or misunderstood you wanted them to fit a NATO strap. They might have assumed you wanted them for a bracelet or leather strap, which would not work.

There are plenty of options for quality curved spring bars out there. Just get the size that fits your lug width.

Amazon has a ton of curved spring bars, they are pretty generically made. You can probably find them on whatever your local equivilent is (AND not pay the Omega tax for them).

Have you tried a single pass Perlon style nylon watch band. Not as bulky as a NATO.

They’re not for a specific watch. Omega boutiques provide (sell) them for the leather type NATO straps. You could ask to buy them for that purpose and see what they say. I bought them for a regular NATO as the clearance wasn’t enough on a straight springbar. I would try again with them if I were you.

I would not recommend generic curved springbars. By design, they are not as structurally sound as a regular straight springbar (as the end part naturally sits on an angle), so quality here matters a lot.

I have the same watch and I DO NOT recommend curved springbars with a nato. They are fine with a regular strap. With a nato the bar will pop out easily as there is more lateral force on the bar and the pin goes in the hole at an angle when curved. Also, try a 19mm strap because 20mm is too wide for the watch IMHO. it looks way better.

Probably TMI: I curve my own bars because the ones you purchase are more heavily curved and you only need a bit of a bend.

I have a 214270 and I have tried the watch on a nato, leather strap and the bracelet and the most comfortable fit is the bracelet.

The watch sits lovely due to its case shape. I’d think that if you put it on a nato it would sit thick and uncomfortable with 2 layers of material. I put mine on a single pass and I didn’t like even that.

I actually had a curved springbar fail on me due to this very reason. Luckily it was on a NATO strap and the watch held together.

You use curved spring bars on regular straps? Just curious why, as I've never heard of that before. I thought they were designed to be used with thick nato straps.

I curve the bars myself (just an bit) and put them into regular straight end leather straps. It is pretty much necessary on this watch because otherwise you will scratch the leather and that looks really bad.
