Hi sorry for the delay, but I was on vacation in Morocco with the family.
The picture being what it is, I鈥檇 say acier and inox should have space between them and the spring bar is wrong.
So probably fake...
Kind regards.
Mounir
Fake: Soft, "molten" 惟, "ACIERIN O X" instead of the correct "ACIER INOX".
I thought so, compared to other examples on this thread the 惟 logo was lacking detail, as well as the letters on the back being all over the place. Thank you for confirming!
Just so you know, I bought this one from Omegastar for my 1959 Seamaster Chrono!
I really like those beautiful "fat" 惟 buckles. They have a distinct design, and it matches your watch perfectly.
I've been lucky to get my hands upon a 16mm steel and a 14mm gold plated buckle, both original. I guess Omega switched to the slimmer 惟 models in the early sixties?
One advantage of the "Sun" version, though, is that the tongue has a better bite on the strap due to its profile.
This is slightly embarrassing, but I don't know which watches came with this "closed" buckle. What is the advantage (or disadvantage) of this design? And what are they called to distinguish them from ordinary buckles?

What is embarrassing about that? 馃榾 That is an honest question.
To the best of my knowledge, those buckle types came with Seamaster De Villes. But as it apply in general for vintage buckles, there are lots of exceptions to the rule.
I dont think there are any advantages or disadvantages of the specific buckle design. It was merely a design choice, perhaps to distinguish it from the more classic buckles.
This buckle was designed so that you don鈥檛 need a loop and the closing part would go underneath instead of over.
Look at the picture and you will get what I mean...
Thanks a lot, @omegastar !
Do you have a guess which models came with the closed buckle? @Hnansen votes for Seamaster deVille, which sounds plausible to me.
Tank you so much for taking The time to help others finding genuine buckles! I have pretty much just avoided all buckles before as I found it very difficult to know... Now I will try to source a couple 馃榾

I think that it was used on many models for a period of time as an Omega exclusivity.
