I believe they’re 19mm lugs. I can tell if the lack of strap taper is just an artifact of the photo. I was also hoping if one of our resident buckle experts could note if 18mm buckles were even common in the 1960’s.
Yes, lugs width is 19 mm. I use a modern Omega strap on mine, and it is 19 at the lugs and 16 at the buckle. I did a quick search on the Extranet by attribute, looking for any leather strap that has 19 mm lug width, and 18 mm buckle width, and none exist.

What does it mean these symbols?

Hi all!

I've recently acquired a gorgeous 1964 Constellation which came with a most likely non-original buckle (the watch is 18k but the buckle it came with is plated).

The question I have, is whether the buckle prong might also be mismatched. I think it came with the prong installed upside down, with the hook end pointing up, which seemed wrong and kept catching on things.

However, when flipping the prong round, it now sits quite proud of the buckle, as though it is too long.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

You are correct. It is incorrect for that buckle.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions!

Any idea where I can pick up a correct prong? Is it the sort of thing I might find people willing to sell on this forum, or is it something I'd need to trawl eBay for?

Or is it actually likely that I'll need to pick up a complete buckle..?

They are 18K hallmarks, although I have not seen 4 on one buckle before. So its probably 18K, if you really want to know a jeweler can verify, but I wouldnt bother.

wrong long prong does not belong, buy AM buckle for a song, swap prong and rock along

Hi buckle-buddies, here's one for you.
I have skimmed through its hefty 62 pages, but apologies in advance if this has cropped up already.
I'm looking to source a gold-plated buckle from c.1970 (and a SS one from the late 60s, as it goes) and I stumbled across the attached.
To my untrained eye it seems to fit the period and doesn't look like a knock-off. But it lacks any markings on the underside.
Why would a counterfeiter not attempt to fake everything an original would have?
Or is it maybe a variant specific to a regional manufacturer? (I'm in the UK.)
Secondly, what do we thing about gold replating? A big no-no, even if the plating's worn through? Or OK to bring it back to life?

Thanks for thoughts.

I’d say legit old buckle and I see no issues with replating at all.

Hi all, sharing pics of three relatively modern era Omega buckles. I’m uncertain as to the authenticity of the buckle to the RHS. It looks very similar to the middle buckle, other than it says Stainless Steel on the reverse, it’s marginally shorter and more curved. For information, the centre buckle came with the ridge leather straps for the 39mm Seamaster range.

I’d be most grateful if anyone can attest to its authenticity. Thanks, Paddy

Here is my SS original Omega modern buckle and strap which I bought from Omega when I sent this Connie for a Bienne job years ago (before I knew better)
Buckle looks just like yours but there are more numbers under Stainless Steel on back of mine.
How does your side profile compare. I’d vote yours likely original

Thanks for your input - different side profile. Again, it’s the buckle on the RHS which concerns me. I appreciate that there are so many variants - really hoping someone has the same “Stainless Steel” buckle and can share info on it’s origin.

I've noticed that part number 94511601 (the modern gold plated buckle) seems to come with two prongs.

Does anybody happen to have a spare prong they'd be willing to sell me? I can't seem to find them individually! I'm in the UK.

Many thanks!

Hi all!
I have a couple of these buckles that I bought from my local watchmaker some years ago. I have been trying to research on these throughout some years, but I have not been able to come to a conclusion myself. Do they seem legit? They are both wider and bit shorter than the «regular» ones I have on my other watches?

If they are gold plated and say “Acier Inox”, then they are not correct. Otherwise, it is possible they are original, but I’ve not seen that exact font before.

Thanks for your reply! It is just bad lighting 😂 The buckle is steel.

Hello everyone,
thank you for this thread. A huge source of valuable information in the age of today’s online noise.
I’m attaching a few pictures of mine Omega 18K (750)16mm buckle. It’s quite polished, but it stil holds up. Manufacturer: AW, total weight: ~3g.
