A question for the buckles pundits: would appreciate your thoughts on what stainless steel buckle(s) would be most appropriate for a mid 1960’s Speedometer. Many thanks.
Bob, here are some nice ones!

The black one attached to the 66 with the botched bezel was from the beginning (according to the first owner..).
The one on the 66 CB is a newer one (addon)

Sorry for the crapy pictures - no sun right now here...

Hello everyone,

I bought 2 buckles from a dealer who has a very good reputation in the German „Uhrforum“. The buckles come from a watchmaker's estate, said the dealer.

My assessment: I don't like the spring bar on either of them. Both have "Acier Inox" written on them without a gap. I don't like the logo on the stainless steel one. On the gold-plated one, the lettering seems to be lasered.

So I think they are fakes. But as the dealer has a good reputation, I want to be sure - what do you think?

Thank you, Andreas

I came up with similar buckle included with a watch I recently bought. It was not especially mentioned so I did not mind but had a feeling it might not be original.

I have seen the first one a few times on different occasions advertised as originals but the text does not look as clear as on other samples from confirmed original buckles.

All 3 of these are fake. You identified the issues.

i don't want to go OT, but I've noticed that the same mark from MG (i.e. the sunshine) is engraved in other brands buckles and clasp.
For example, in the clasp of the ref. 10 (Oyster) for IWC (yacht Club or Ingenieur).
Is thare any knowledge about this MG facotry?

What is approx age of this watch? The MG for vintage Onega buckles was during 1960’s and early 70’s afaik
The logo certainly looks similar.

Likely early 1970’s. Same range as the Omega buckles.

Yes, they were made from around 1967(?) until at least the mid-late 1970s.

I don't know the name of the MG company, only that they were one of several makers of vintage Omega buckles with the original stamped MG logo, and later using the radiant star logo. I have no idea if they made bracelet clasps for other makers, I have not seen the sun logo on Omega clasps, maybe others have. There are lots of counterfeit buckles with fake logos. If they are laser etched they are fake, as the original buckles were stamped.
As the clasp is early 70's it would be possible it is same MG, but who knows. Could also be fake.

I could also have simply said I have no idea.......::facepalm1::

I think the IWC clasp is genuine - I've seen other examples of that oyster style IWC bracelet with that symbol.

Just done some research online and came across this!
https://www.vintagewatchstraps.com/swisspdm.php

Right down near the bottom there is mention of a company called Ateliers Réunis S.A., that aquired Metalia Geneve (MG), and Orflex (sun symbol).

Well done with this research. So this explains observation that MG buckles were earlier, followed by sun logo. MG patent was dropped in 1964 after which the new parent company continued to use sun logo for buckles.
I believe this info is new to this thread.

Are you interested in selling either of the two on the left of each row? 😀
