This is the buckle I received yesterday:

Looks very much like a vintage buckle. It is my belief that they cost about $50. There was a mixup in the price quoted and I paid the lesser price. I am sending it out for gold plating as I will use it for gold-filled watches.

I received this direct from Omega by way of my local jeweler, since the nearest boutique is in Chicago and I am in Milwaukee.

I'll share back after it is plated.

@Tom: thanks for this picture. this is the first time we're seeing a real product(!) and from the looks of it, it looks very attractive! plus, we know for certain that it's a genuine Omega tang, unlike all those ebay faux options.

one question though: from the way Omega packages these tang buckles, you can't really see how far the pin goes into the center/middle of the open portion of the Omega logo. it would be great if someone has one that is opened and could show us how far the pin goes into that open portion of the logo. thanks so much! these 16mm and 18mm new vintage styled tangs are really nice additions.

Why not keep the steel buckle for another watch and buy a gold plated version?

I do not have a steel watch I want to use this buckle with, and Omega is not likely to have plated buckles. $50 more or less for plating puts me into a price I'm willing to pay.

I got this from davidcarpenterwatches.com. He appears to stock in the UK. The answer is "just barely enough."

Note the precise fit of the original springbar. Don't lose it!

This is on eBay now.

I found this similar buckle earlier on this thread.

They look the same to me. It is listed as a "modern buckle" on this thread and is too late for what I am looking for, but the listed buckle looks like it may clean up ok. I am thinking it is late '60s early '70s.

I think the eBay buckle is original. However, without the distinctive angled tang, it is pretty much worthless.

Not sure if another one would even fit this buckle. Even if it did, it would look much different.

Glad I checked. I didn't even notice the distinct shape of the tang. I now have another thing to watch for. Thanks for your insight.

That angled tang, machined instead of pressed, is sooo much nicer to use!

Tang width of old buckles ?

Anyone have a pair of calipers and a 16mm buckle?

I’m looking for the measurement of the width of the tang. I’m interested in having a strap made and I can specify the width of the holes in the strap.

In MM if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Pic of type of buckle at top.

Hello all sorry I am new here and trying to read the posts and understand it all at the same time. I received an Omega from my grandmother that was my grandfather’s watch. It’s an all original (I believe) Automatic Seamaster Deville and I was looking to switch over to a leather band from the gold plated or filled bracelet it has. I don’t really mind a band that is by a third party, but I would like the buckle to be an authentic gold plated from the same era as I know there were many options. I’m wondering if Chrono24 is a reliable place to purchase an authentic one, and I am also wondering what price range I should be looking for to buy one, as I really do not want to run into a good fake. I have studied the images carefully that were posted and I may have found one but it seems very cheap ($30) to be authentic.

Sorry for the long post, I’m just very much a novice at this even though I love the watches. The picture of the watch is my own. The pictures of the buckle are from the Chrono24 post.

Fake. The spring bar and acierinox are the telltales.
Mounir.
Spot on!
To elaborate:
ACIER INOX means stainless steel. This is a gold plated buckle. Plus, the original buckles always have the correct two-word spelling.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to obtain the vintage buckle other than ebay? I can’t seem to find any on there unless I buy a 9kt solid gold one, which is very expensive. I’m not even sure that would be correct for the time period of the Seamaster Deville or if it is authentic.

Genuine buckles show up from time to time. Patience and a saved search will help you.

Hi guys, after two years of searching I finally found late 1950s, early 1960s Omega Seamaster. I’d really like to add a stainless, correct vintage Omega buckle.

Does this one seem legit? Your help is greatly appreciated!

Hi guys,

Great post here! I’ve been following it for a while actually.

What do you think about this one here? Real or fake? I’ve been trying to cross reference it with all those posted in this thread but can’t find an exact match. To my knowledge, I have never seen one of these produced by ‘B’.

I can’t properly compare it with the plated one that I have either, as mine is by ‘MG’.

The markings seem correct but the font looks slightly off, but of course, I understand that there is room for slight variations as these are, after all, vintage.

P.s. apologies for the photo quality. It’s the best I have!

All the best,
Chris

Very interesting, looks like you discovered a new specimen I have never encountered.
