Omega buckles on eBay are kind of like black dialed Seamasters, not many genuine ones to be found.

so the consensus is that my $50 buckle with the GW hallmark in the back is a fake one?

or, is it uncertain at this point? still a bit confused.

The Omega logo is too soft, I am afraid. Did you buy it from “mad max”? Sells nothing but fakes.

this is the 16mm steel tang buckle that i bought via ebay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/263975562415?ul_noapp=truePurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

the seller uses the word "authentic" in all caps. if i kept this buckle, where would i find a genuine one in 16mm? i certainly don't want to buy another fake one!

    thanks so much to all.

    1. Read this thread from the start.
    2. Do eBay searches filtered to used items.
    3. repeat
Unless you already have an expensive 18/16 strap that you love, consider any 14mm buckle that meets your criteria. 18/14 straps can be had.

@felsby: thank you for your advice.

i am getting a custom strap made as i have very small wrists for a guy. also, it's for an unusual watch so i want the look to be just right.

the watch's (the Omega Pupitre Beta 21) original leather strap actually tapers from 20mm to 14mm! as such, i had originally wanted to get a 14mm buckle but the custom strap maker mentioned that the large rally holes i wanted might not fit properly.

A quartz watch? You’ll need a modern buckle with etched logo. These are easy to find as originals.

but the Beta 21 is from the early 1970s!

what might be the period-appropriate tang steel buckle from the 1970s, may i ask?

    thanks.

There are many period appropriate buckles from that era as Omega made hundreds and hundreds of different models during that decade.

My suggestion would be to research the Beta 21's online and see if you can find any which match yours and have an original buckle.

I don't think there is an easy way to do this, except by hard work and patience.

Omega has released two raised-logo buckles lately:

    025STZ006410 16mm stainless
    025STZ007063 18mm stainless

    Picture:

I've ordered one of each and will send the 16mm buckle to be gold plated.

The 18mm buckle. direct from Omega, is $30. I assume the 16mm is about that, too.

You know, I should have asked whether it might already be available in gold....

This trend does not disqualify any buckle and one has to learn how to recognise genuine buckles from fakes that you see 99,9 % of the time on sale on Ebay.

There are so many exceptions and that EK. buckle that annoyed me a lot because it broke all my theories, but you always need exception. I believe that early buckles were not signed properly or nobody cared.

My watchmaker got a price quote direct from Omega, and he didn’t say they were not available...

The plot thickens... the buckles that were quoted at $30 were shipped and invoiced at $70.

Good thread I’m goona need one or two for my dynamic. It’s in service so I can’t put up a pic but one of the dynamic straps has an omega buckle one doesn’t. I was checking out the one that does and the marking look right but it really seems to be a cheesy build and I would worry about it being secure. I think I’m just going to buy two regular buckles when I pick it up from service that way I can take my time hunting down legits. I find rushing into these purchases is not a good way to do things. I’ll put up a pic of the one that concerns me when I get it out of service. Again good thread

    Hi All:

my new incoming vintage Omega has a strap with Omega printed on the inside of the strap and an Omega tang buckle. However, if you were to look very closely, you'll see that at the spring bar, the strap is slightly narrower than the actual inside width of the lugs! I'm wondering if the seller simply put an old Omega strap on this watch and pretended that this was the watch's original strap?

Also, is this a genuine Omega tang buckle? It seems like it's genuine, as per the many comments on this thread, but I've been wrong before, so I'm asking the good folks here to pitch in with your comments, opinions, please.

Here are a few pictures to help try to figure this out, please, if you don't mind. Thank you, gentlemen.

You will never know what really happened unless you ask the seller.
Now, IMHO, the buckle is original and probably does not belong to this strap. You can see it is to large and the tang is to small . The spring bar coming out of the buckle is not the way it should be, so one can suspect it was swapped.
The bracelet looks to short between the lugs, probably 19 mm. width. with an 18 mm. strap. 19 mm. straps are not as common as 18 mm. All these remarks are only assumptions based on your pics.
But anyway, who would want an old used sweaty leather strap, its like wearing someone else’s underwear !
The watch looks nice, would you care to share some pictures ?
