A sad day for my “birth year” Speedy.

Its s lovely watch. I think you should keep it and wear it as much as possible.
You will probably bond with it eventually.
And if the birthyear thing is still important only consider selling this watch to someone looking for a September -69 watch, and then see if ”your” watch is attainable.

And it was finger trouble.
Sorry, what does this mean?

I get that not everyone cares about a birth year watch. But I do. It's what I set out to buy. For me, it's not just about having any birth year watch, it's also about having an iconic watch at a momentus time for the watch, which was produced at a time when the watch itself was transitioning into what it is today.

I would feel how you do about a birth year Datejust or a birth year Sub..meh. Who cares? But 1968 was a pivotal year for the world, NASA, the Speedmaster, and me.

I think what you meant to say is thanks to Eugene for sharing such useful information. Didn’t you?

Hmm it wouldn’t let me add this photo to my post.
Hmmm, AML, stepped dial, gorgeous lume, great DON bezel, sharp lugs, I’d rock that bad boy all day every day.

I understand your disappointment, but wouldn’t a worse looking watch from 1968 be even more disappointing?

It means, that someone entered the wrong date, by accident (as if you read up on how the archive process works on Fratello, you will see there are several dates and places for information to be looked up / gathered, so its really not meant disrespectfully to the Omega Archive at all, we all are human).

Edit : And no, I am not saying that is what happenend. It may have happened, or not. Thats just what it looks like to me, from Omega's own process.

Interesting. So if you were as determined as me to have a ‘68, would you resubmit and pay for another extract just to roll the dice?

What would YOU do? Wear it and get over it, or sell it and move on?
Well, since you're asking: Wear it and get over it. As far as disappointments go, this one is quite a few steps down from "crushing." You thought you were getting a hugely attractive watch that happened to be one of the thousands manufactured in 1968. It turns out it was actually manufactured in . . . well, you still don't know. But it was delivered to the US in 1969, which, if it makes you feel better, is the country and year of my own manufacture. Well, with a delivery date of February 1969, one could argue . . .

It's your call, of course. If it were me, I'd imagine getting rid of my now-loved watch, obsessing over finding the "right" watch, spending too much on it and looking at it every day knowing in my very heart that I enjoyed the one I had first more. What kind of way is that to live, I say.

You are definitely not wrong.

... It feels like finding out some weirdness about your girlfriend of 2 months, like she used to be in a cult or something...
Speedmaster owners talking about cults without noting the irony 😉

Maybe this watch will be a good metaphor for life, something doesn’t have to be perfect for you to love it 😀

Most likely fat fingers as above. Mine is one of the 26,55 serial watches mentioned by Eugene above, in my case a -68 model dated 1/11/68, among the first with that rarer caseback. They were making 861 movement 022s in September 1969, not 321 movement -67s. Most probably yours is a Sept 1968 serial IMO, but then perhaps the theory about parts bin left overs has some credence too.

Then again, if it were me, every time I looked at my wrist I would recall the day DaveK roasted me to a crispy rind in two lines.

You have no idea when the parts were made incl case, dial and hands. They could be years old. I just don't get this birthyear fetish. You had a great watch in your eyes until you found out the Omega records state a later date, and now it is not desireable any longer. This illogic escapes me. A 'sad day' for you.
