Oh yeah? Well ... how well do you do on pocket watch straps?

1897 solid silver Waltham with blue DaveK Mystery Braid lanyard.

1926 gold filled Illinois Sangamo Special with brown DaveK Mystery Braid lanyard.

Did you lube the movement with whale oil? If yes, use buffalo hide. If not, you're a fraud.

Grade: F
Normally you'd get an F for putting leather on a diver, but since that thing is not even waterproof, you instead get an F for wearing a broken watch.

How did you know the date flips at 8pm? Lol

I wonder how many people of my age (that's less than 60) have actually seen/used instrument oil source from whales?

Initial strap tan calfskin too casual

New submission Cognac Croc!! (as suggested)

looking to boost the GPA!!!

Shell Cordovan is a special leather from under the rear hide of a horse. It sounds fancy, but it's aesthetically boring, being completely smooth and unremarkable. Straps made from it tend to be too thick, making it especially ill-suited for small watches, like your Alpina. Worse, that strap is not even tapered.

your "F" gets an "F".
30mm case, 1.6mm thin strap, 5/8" at lug and buckle as most 5/8" straps were bitd.
guess you missed a class 😉

Your F of my F gets an F. My comments were about the strap on your Alpina, not your Mido. You've mixed metric and imperial measurements, and pointed out that your strap is indeed not tapered, which it should be, unless that happens to be the original buckle.

oh you definitely skipped or flunked Vintage 101 😁
the vast majority of mens 5/8" straps were not tapered.
11/16"? yes, definitely, straight in that size was a rarity way back when, and aren't suited to the oldies.

Well you've posted a bracelet on a thread about straps, so your reading comprehension score is a D.
That does look fantastic though

thanks, but tbf some of my friends outside of the US call pretty much every watch attachment a strap...or sometimes a belt...i suppose "belt" could describe some of the 2-stitch straps some of us...love

Lovely watch -and buckle 👍 but what does “bitd” mean?
Careful @bradurani you’re taking on a true strap expert!

"Proper" in every sense, other than the fact that this Nile Crocodile leather is banned in many parts of the civilized world...

...cow something, definitely a grey area...but I love it for casual wear...especially since I don't report to an office anymore (Yay, Pandemic) and there are only so many opportunities for weddings, funerals, bar-mitzvahs, bat-mitzvahs, christenings, Nobel award ceremonies etc.

...and possibly the most egregious...genuine ostrich, wich I love for travel -- and this is a great travel watch...

...and finally, this one, from my last cattle drive 😀

Oh damn, I hope you don't have that listed on ebay or it's not gonna last long now! Which reminds me to hit your store later for a new one for my new Breitling chrono. 😀
