A detail I wish they'd include on the new 3861 Speedmasters

Hi everyone,

So I've had a 3861 Speedmaster since January of this year, and one thing I've been thinking about constantly is, why didn't Omega include long hour markers on the dial?

I don't know why, but I just really love the long hour markers on vintage Speedmasters, and I think it would make the watch look so much cooler.

What do you think?

Cheers.

Agreed. The longer ones do look better to me as well.

For me the biggest annoyance is the applied modern Omega logo. They’ve used the vintage ones on so many recent Speedmasters like the Speedy Tuesdays and Ed White, it looks so much better than the modern Omega symbol, I just wish they’d change over to it.

I agree with both points (longer indices and old logo would be better). For me also ratio of sizes of text is wrong. Maybe it's something to which I can get used to, but after so many years of previous configuration it looks odd to me.

However, I think these changes were done deliberately to make it different from New321

I feel the new dials are bolder, punchier and more modern, and that was the goal of Omega. They have to look forward. It was a fine line which they walked pretty well.

I don't mind the modern AML, as it has changed through the years and this is consistent with the latest logo. But I don't get why they didn't use the AML on the hesalite. That's the one feature that makes it difficult for me to choose between the hesalite and sapphire.

Long indices would have been great. Never thought of that.

I agree the longer indices look better. Especially when they have a nice patina. This post basically raises a question I was thinking of posing here. Since we have so many vintage enthusiasts, I was curious how folks felt about the new Speedmaster bringing back some vintage styling queues such as the dot over 90 and stepped dial. DON isn’t so much aesthetically pleasing as a nuance to distinguish certain pieces. The stepped dial does add a bit more character to the dial in my opinion. Although you’ll never get all of the vintage “charm”/patina on a modern piece, why go vintage if one can get all the same things in a brand new watch? I suppose there are so many vintage inspired pieces coming out its a mute point. Something for everyone. I just wish I could I have them all. 😀
