Consider the birth year watch as mentioned above, but I’d go for a Speedmaster 145.022-74 so a stamped 1974 model regardless of when it was actually made. Only some get a Speedy with their birth year on the caseback. Born a few weeks earlier and you would have not had this option. 😉

Thank you for that info. Will definitely check it out.

I agree with what you're saying about the Heritage and the lack of a date window.

I was looking hard at the Rolex Explorer II (226570) with the white dial when I was in the market for a GMT, but I refuse to pay the mark-up for the name on the dial. Add to that being treated as a 2nd class citizen by Rolex ADs and it's pretty much turned me off from them forever. That's what got me looking at the GS. It's definitely a cut above. My wife joked, "You paid what for a Seiko?" and then I had to school her on the history. 😉 I'm not sure that she cared, but I enjoyed sharing. lol

I looked pretty hard at a couple of grand Seiko GMT spring drives when I was looking outside of Omega for my first luxury watch. If I hadn't gone Omega that was another very strong contender, they're beautiful.

I can't recommend the Heritage enough, but I really like the idea of birth year as well.

50th birthday, get the 50th Ann Apollo 11 in steel, or one of the Trilogy watches.

For some reason, I can't stop looking at these. 😀

That's because you have good taste.

If I were back at that milestone I'd be looking at either a really nice birth year piece or the green Globemaster Annual Calander with some kind of dressed down strap. JM2C

Any of the available heritage models are great in their own ways, and you still would have 3 watches (that grand seiko is gorgeous, btw) with date windows. IMO, the lack of a date window on the Heritage models allows for them to have a certain dial balance that's quite attractive.
The Seamaster 300 Heritage with caliber 8912 has a time zone function instead of a date window. If you travel frequently between time zones, it's a great feature because you can adjust the hour hand without stopping the minute and second hand. I generally find a date feature overrrated because even with a quickset date it's still a pain in the ass to change the date and the window throws off the balance of the dial. If i really need to check the current date (and God help me if I really don't know what the current day/date is), I have my iPhone for that.

I considered this for my 50th

My brother pointed me to that, but at 45mm I feel like it'll be too big on my wrist. I need to find a way to try one out.

Have you considered one of these?

I've not. That's nice, but not sure it's quite what I'm looking for.

I tried on the standard FF and it is big and heavy….
I believe the GMT Trilogy version is 40.5mm, and the Bathyscaphe is 43mm.

It's actually quite compact, or wears so... I know that is relative, but give it a shot ?

From what I read of you through your post, you're looking for another diver, which I totally understand. The two only models you mentioned by name are the SMP300 + Seamaster 300.

Both of them are excellent choices. Personally I think the SMP is a little bit less classy than the Heritage, and you already have a Planet Ocean. Which way do you want to go? What makes you tick...?

A Speedy would also be a good buy. Hell, they're all excellent choices! Which one hits the spot?

Appreciate the reply. At first, I thought I wanted the Super Racing because of the new technology used in the movement. While I do have interest in it still, I'm leaning hard toward the Heritage. "Classy" wasn't the first word that came to my mind when I saw it, but it fits. It feels more refined. There's a local jeweler that has one that I'm going to check out this week to get an in-person feel for it.
