Were you alerted to the price of the -1 also? The -6 is listed at $28,925.

Yup. A bargain. Only 80,000 CHF

First off, the 2998 is my Grail! Absolutely love everything about this reference, but Wow! That's a lot of greenbacks 馃お I'm either going to have to get Really lucky, or marry a socialite!

Anyone know which eBay sale they got the bezel from?
I don't. The Mexico sale clearly didn't come with it as it tried to argue the DON could have been original. Thus the description of the new listing is a bit of a stretch:
The bezel has faded almost completely, a so-called ghost bezel, over time, but is still legible and clearly the original one.

Just amazing. Who would have thought it possible that the Brothers Davidoff could purchase an eBay 2998-2 and in a few weeks, reunite the Speedie with it's "original" bezel. Will wonders never cease? ::psy::::psy::

Amazing detective work, fellas! I've wondered how some dealers make a living given the low volume nature of selling vintage. This discovery is super enlightening. OF is awesome.

I thought 2998's ended with -5 and then -62. I don't recall ever seeing a -6.

I have a lovely 2998.5, but no socialite.
When I think about it that is probably why I could afford it !!!

The tropical dial Ed White for 55,000CHF is nearly as good.

FYI, Davidoff has corrected their 2998-2 listing.

The ebay listing?

The c24 listing still reads:

---
CONDITION REPORT: Dial has faded over time to a brown color, a so-called tropical dial. The hands are original, however the lollipop chrono hand luminous material was refilled and color matched. The case appears to be only slightly polished, the lugs are still in their thick original state and the hippocampus is still visible on the case back. The bezel has faded almost completely, a so-called ghost bezel, over time, but is still legible and clearly the original one.

I just realized the -2 is now offered on a leather strap instead of the bracelet it had on ebay (end links do not look like #6). Was that "JM" stamped bracelet legit? Should we expect to see it on another piece or sold individually?

Thanks for the email and yes if we didn't know, then we are happy to correct it. We didn't buy it from EBay ourselves, but the seller or re-seller probably did.

The bracelet was not with the watch when we got it
