Negotiating directly with the owner of this watch. It is a later production 2998-2 so I believe the lack of a base 1000 bezel is acceptable. The age, patina of the bezel, dial and hands seem to match up as original. The dial is a very nice rich brown, under the lights. The bracelet appears to be a 7077 from the late 50's which (due to the different buckle )may have originally been for a seamaster. The case appears not polished. Lume on the dial and hands appears to be the correct orange.

A piece like this is a major step up for me and I am entirely open to advice and opinions. My main concern is the dial as I have no experience with a dial of this vintage, worth or texture/color.

I have not seen pictures of the movement yet but will before a deal is made.

    Appreciate the help!

I have other straight lug case Speedmasters. This is a step up from them.

The photo shows an extremely attractive 2998.

The dial looks wonderfully patinated. Just up to the line between patina and degradation!

The lollipop hand seems to add $5000 to the asking price of any 2998....that seems crazy but check for yourselves.

I am 50/50 about the bezel being original.

It is very, very expensive, but then on the other hand, find me another on the market that looks as nice?

That is a beautiful dial. A well aged 2998 with lollipop is never going to be cheap though...

I'm pleased that no one has noticed any obvious flaws.....yet. Does anyone have an opinion on this model 7077 buckle. Moonwatch Only claims that there is no confirmation that it was an original Speedmaster buckle.

At this level, the last thing I would be worrying about is the bracelet!
    Its a great watch.
    Go buy it!

Truthfully, I think bracelets are under appreciated in this forum. Perhaps it's time for a spinoff forum. :)

It is a private negotiation that I'm involved in. At this time, I prefer not to say. My main concern is the quality of the piece. As the consensus seems to agree that the watch is special, then it doesn't matter to me if I under pay or over pay, within reason.

No probs - just got my first speedmaster a few weeks ago, and thinking about a pre moon next - just trying to educate myself on the various older models and their values.

Buy at the right price but not a premium piece for me. Prefer a dial with less patina and base 1000 bezel for a -2. Lollipop nice but would not make up for those issues at least for me.

The dial's patination is gorgeous, IMO, and it would look even better with a fresh crystal.

It is a fair point, but for someone who desires ownership, there simply is not the choice to go for the option you propose!

The options are to own this one, or not.

I dont see any on the market that would satisfy MSNWatch - that's not a criticism at all, Mike you have impeccable taste and beautiful watches - but for mortals there is not a lot of choice!
