Apparently, Aston called it quits early due to some PU issues that Honda is taking responsibility for.
It seems to be a complete shambles with 6 laps completed, all day, and the reports are Honda was down to their last energy store.

If they don't see massive improvement this year, my money is on Fred walking away after Monaco.

Gaaaahhhh!

Support for Android 12 has just ended in the official F1 app. My tablet is less than two years old and has Android 12. Yes I knew it was already getting a bit old but the tablet was a decent price. The app is what I use for timing screens and live circuit tracking with additional screens in a web browser on a laptop and BBC commentary on the radio, so this is a major blow to following F1 races unless I drop a couple of hundred on something with Android 15 (I expect support for 13 to go before the end of the year so that's not worth bothering with). There's absolutely nothing else wrong with the tablet and it still registers 97% battery health.

Gaaaahhhh and again gaaaahhhh.

Found out today - it came up in a discussion group - that qualy will be a 6, 6 and 10 format BUT the sessions will be the same length as previously. With all the energy harvesting junk (it's junk, not racing) qualy should be a crapshow with much radio whinging. 12 days to FP1 in Oz...

I am wondering if the current conflict in the Middle East will affect the first race in Melbourne. Dubai is usually a big hub for flights to Australia. I hope not of course.

There are many ways to get to Melbourne without transiting through Dubai, doubt it will have much effect on things.

There are three charter flights to bring about 500 people to Melbourne so there will be minimal impact as I understand the news.
What might be more of a concern is the teams have a huge amount of sea freight, often duplicated equipment and hardware that gets moved around with longer lead times and leapfrogs from region to region. They were all just in Bahrain with their pit walls and gear, and were expected to have a Pirelli tyre test in Bahrain just a few days ago.

That gear is all still in Bahrain and with the Straight of Hormuz closed, all that heavy equipment might have to be trucked to Jeddah or Muscat in order to get to open water and be on the way to wherever its needed, probably the Americas for that leg

Ah, Sea Freight chat as Ted K likes to call it. The notebook will often show the routing info on the packing cases and it is fascinating.

From memory there are at least multiple kits of sea freight (4+), in addition to the European season truck freight.

They have a dedicated north and south america set (maybe 2?), a couple in oz and Asia and at least one in the mid east.

Bahrain and Saudi are in 6 and 7 weeks, respectively.

Without debating the merits of having races anywhere (everyone is sports washing), the current conflict makes it almost impossible to have positive events in either place. Not to mention the actual safety concerns with a blinking target like those (remember the refinery bombing a few Saudi GPS ago?).

The question is really can anything be subbed for one of those at such short notice? Likely not but it would be interesting (or great) to one of the European circuits hold an early "last minute" race (European GP? San Marino GP?).

On to Oz, it's race week. Finally!

If they had to, running it back to back at one of the European venues would probably be the easiest like in 2020, a double Spa, Hungaroring or Silverstone wouldn't be too bad

I'd take a double spa or Silverstone.

Double Hungary only works if they reverse grid the second one (yawn - Freds defence on SLH in 2021 (?) notwithstanding).

Apparently the Lizard People have successfully removed Danica from Sky F1...

I for one welcome our new overlords efforts to make things better.

Well, certainly has been an exciting Thursday in Oz.

WTF did Honda and AMR build? "Aston Martin’s drivers are at risk of permanent nerve damage to their hands if they run for too many laps with the intense vibrations that the new AMR26 produces, team boss Adrian Newey has revealed." but he also thinks it'll be a top 10 car when developed.

Si.

No carry over grid pen for ValBot

No loss. Her commentary was not insightful. More JB, please or Alice Powell.

Reptiles, live on the dark side of the moon and control the world. You know, that thing. Also rigged AD 2021.

The Newey press conference just showed why he’s a technical guy and not really TP material. He needs to understand the politics better. He just created a Honda PU vs AM chassis divide within the team
