I didn't know the plank even existed until today.

I wonder where the sparks come from then?
The plank has been mandatory since 1994 and there have been a few disqualifications for wearing it down too much since then. Originally a dense wood it has been composite for a while now, with titanium inserts that produce the sparks when they contact the ground. long explanation :- skid blocks

In addition to the jabroc planks, there are titanium skid blocks underneath the car

Yeah, I eventually saw those. So for each shower of sparks, the driver gets closer to being disqualified. That must have been a surprise.

The titanium not so much. The wood yes.

It exists so they don’t have break away sections or use the wearing away of the plank as aero aid. They need something to provide some protection to the center line and wood works.

If you want a good story read about NASCAR and them denting the cars in refueling to get better aero.

Sources reported my local newspaper Tsunoda will replace Lawson from the next race on;

not surprising, another swing and a miss for C. Horner, I don't feel one bit sorry for him. At this rate, I wouldn't count on Max hanging around much longer as Marko is on borrowed time.

That Dutch paper also suggested that Honda kicked in $10M to sweeten the deal and get it done with Yuki to RBR which makes sense really, they’d love a Japanese driver with promise to have a chance at success in a Honda powered car before the year is out.

As long as they don’t bring the F2 engine…

Hate to say it but from what I have seen lately Lawson seems to be a bit of a brat. Also IMO Yuki should of got the drive first anyway. Now we just need to see if Yuki can tame the raging bull or if the car is really bad and only Max is making it look acceptable.

Max could probably make a wheelbarrow look acceptable. Hoping Yuki can get more out of the Red Bull than Lawson (and Checo) but it’ll be a tall order. This will be a career making or career breaking move for him.

I haven't been too impressed with Lawson either, attitude wise. All F1 drivers have to have some level of an ego, but Lawson seems to be particularly full of himself. I get some drivers just don't like to engage with fans or the media much, and I'm sure he's under immense pressure, but there's been a lot of little moments where he comes across like a dickhead, it all adds up to paint a picture.

More objectively, Yuki outperformed him. Yuki has more experience. Yuki deserved the drive. I said it before the season started, I predicted Lawson wasn't ready and would fail, but I did not expect it to be so big and so soon. He wasn't bad in the VCARB, he just needs at least another season of experience before promotion to a front running team.

Given how bad his performance tanked, and in a similar fashion to Perez and maybe even Gasly and Albon before him, I am beginning to think it really is the car just sucks. My prediction now is Lawson will get back into the VCARB and do fine, and Yuki will struggle in the RB. If that happens, I think we should re-examine not just Lawson but also Perez.

HAM on pole for the sprint…get in there Lewis!

The McLarens don’t look as mighty…so far. Either they’re still chasing set up or both Lando and Oscar were overdriving.

Lawson is going to be swapping seats with Tsunoda before long if he can’t on top of the Red Bull. Though I’m not a big Max fan it is impressive that he can find time in a car that his teammates struggle with.
The only thing that makes the red bull fast is max Verstappen. It was the same in MotoGP with Marc Marquez at Honda.the car was built for Verstappen and his driving style.I am not a fan of him but his ability is outstanding.Lawson will be better off at RB,let’s see how Tsusoda does,I wish him well.

I know Perez gets a lot of crap for his poor performances but he actually wasn't that bad his first few years there. While he wasn't challenging Max or Lewis in 2021 he was still kind of up there. He only really tailed off his last 2 years with the 2nd half of last year being particularly bad.

Fully official and confirmed by RedBull now. Which makes it even more sad really since it sounds like Liam found out through some Dutch newspaper, kudos to the journalists for being good at what they do but RedBull handled it about as badly as they could overall.

The story is (via Kym Illman on YT) that Honda offered Red Bull 10 million last year for Tsunoda to get the drive, but Red Bull preferred Liam Lawson (probably a Helmut thing). When Lawson began looking iffy Red Bull went back to Honda to see if the 10 million offer was on the table, they said yes but only if they were swapped before the Japanese race as they could get some very positive marketing happening. And so it came to pass…

I heard it was an additional 10 million? As in 10 mil for them to put Yuki in the car and an additional 10 if it was for Suzuka? Not sure how reliable that is. But clearly Honda a key driver (no pun intended) to get a Japanese driver in a Japanese powered car for the Japanese GP.

It has been said that Liam's team leaked the fact that he was replacing DR before the team told him, along with a few episodes of bad sportsmanship last year, I dont feel all too bad for LL.

This makes a lot of sense, actually. Wouldn't be surprised if this is true.

Also heard (via The Race) that the decision was also made with development of the next car in mind. RB felt Yuki could contribute more to that than LL.

I’ve always heard that Marlo wanted Yuki and Horner wanted Lawson.
