Mercedes and Honda have both had great success with a split turbo arrangement, in other words a compressor and turbine at opposite ends of the engine with a shaft running through the V.
2026 engine rules BAN the split turbo, as there is now a maximum distance between the two. Ferrari are already on par with Mercedes and Honda engine wise with a non-split turbo, and have been ahead at various times recently on power. This is even with the disadvantage of a non-split turbo, which will be what everyone else has to use from 2026. That puts Ferrari in a really nice position power unit wise.
