Omega Forums - Updates Thread, Late 2024

Hey everyone, adding this thread so we can keep forum feature updates seperate from our bug reports.

Some recent changes have been pushed out now:
  • Minor improvements to member view profile layout
  • Tided up appearance of embedded albums/songs from Spotify and Apple Music
  • Fix for quoted images not being clickable if image is external to OF
  • Minor improvements to member cards overlay
  • Some notification items needed larger link targets
  • Improved visibility of search constraint controls (the top bar nav search field on desktop/tablet)

Omega Forums hosts nearly 2 million attachments, mostly photos, and we've now made it easier to explore them. For any forum supporters (all Tiers) you can check them out here:

This offers a real-time stream of photos from all forums, with small images and GIFs filtered out, giving you full access to the entire archive of past uploads.

Opening any image launches a swipeable gallery lightbox, showing the original posts where the photos were shared:

There's also a new photos tab in member profiles:

These features will likely remain exclusive to supporters (all tiers) as a way to add more value for members who directly support the forum. Performance improvements and additional functionality are planned too. Enjoy!

That's because you're our new photos moderator and expected to curate the thousands of incoming photos. 👍

Kidding, it was just a UI glitch making the controls show up (they won't function properly). Should be fixed now.

Is there a cat filter?
Coming soon via generative AI. All cat photos will be automatically converted to Golden Retriever puppies.

I forgot to mention that photo stats now appear in member cards and profiles too, if you click the stat in a member card it will show all their photos:

A few updates and new things we're testing at the moment:
- Automatic limits for posts and bumps in Private Watch Sales forum with an indicator showing how long until a new bump/post can be made.

  • Behind the scenes we've added new structured data so sites like Watch Recon and Watch Patrol (and Google) can crawl and display sales items from our members more easily. Hopefully Google will display your sales items better now too.
  • Currently testing AI-based real time content moderation for public posts. We're primarily using this to catch spam posts immediately, especially from accounts that lurk and make dodgy edits to their content later. We're also evaluating checks for excessive profanity or threats, especially when directed towards a person. We'll be tuning the models to suit our needs without getting in the way of normal discussions.

Next up on the agenda is featured/curated photo sections.

Does this limiter apply across all of a members listings, if they have multiple? Or just on the one they are bumping? Neat feature regardless!

Does this limiter apply across all of a members listings, if they have multiple? Or just on the one they are bumping? Neat feature regardless!
Applies across all listings in private watch sales. Still some testing/tweaking to do for edge-cases and members posting on threads that they don't own, because right now those would count as bumps too.

We’ve released an update which has fixed the “Followed Members” section, which can be found by going to Latest and then hitting the “Followed Members” tab

To make this work you need to follow some of your favorite members by clicking on their avatar and clicking the follow button or by clicking follow from that member’s profile page.

Ooo I like the All/Unread toggle!

Yep, only downside is that refreshing the page forces you to have to select the unread toggle again.

Edit: I don't have to use the refresh toggle on mobile anymore it seems the unread toggle has that implemented, on my computer I don't have to refresh by clicking on "posts" anymore.
