How did they sacrifice Monaco? Still on the calendar, as hyped as ever, no?

Not sure I watched the same Vegas race as you, but beyond some first-race growing pains (quite embarrassing in some cases), it seemed like a huge success to me! Not a typical street circuit, incredibly high number of overtakes! It's a great track to drive on PS5 F1 2023...

Good afternoon,
Yes, monaco Is still on the calendar at least for the moment. And yes, they are willing to sacrify this race. Iam from Monaco, When the time came to renegotiate the contract, I can tell you it wasn't a walk in the parc. Basically the Prince had to get involved.
Now regarding Las Vegas or Azerbaijan, I don't have a particular issue with these ' new' race track. I liked watching the race. Iam.just wondering if Formula one is becoming a circus .

Even in Spa, in the middle of no where, traffic is jammed for an 100 000 people to get the driver's helicopters to take off... It's a circus every where now 馃榾 The F1 can't live long these days only with old circuits with no parking and mud. Need both world.

But I still prefer Spa or Monaco.

Monaco is a great historic venue, but the racing...? Meh... follow the leader 'round a street circuit isn't so much fun to watch.

Monaco is sometimes (frequently) boring yes. But the entire season was. Despite the circuit. F1 need competition first. Close races. more fighting.

LV lights just to hide the poor show on track won't work. Only old circuit for old fans won't work either. Will see 2024.

Not every race, Ferrari and maybe McLaren might eke out a win or two, but that's it.
Yet MB was solidly in 2nd you don鈥檛 think they have a chance?

Obviously the motor is good (see McLaren) they are extremely motivated and learned from the past car.

I鈥檓 expecting another long car with a more rear ward seating position.

I think you can鈥檛 rule them out.

Each progressive year without major rule changes should naturally bring the cars closer together. So many vital elements have to come together for a driver/team/car to win any given race, and dominations of the past have always come to an end (eventually). Max is a special talent, and the Redbull car definitely nailed this initial aero-era package, and the team is executing brilliantly. The battle behind Max was great last year, and several teams showed flashes of competitiveness. Max will likely win the championship again in 2024, but my money is on several other teams getting a win, and the battle being harder for Max than it was in 2023... fingers crossed!

Everybody needs to quit talking about Max. Mercedes is starting from scratch. Adrian has had an extra six months to work out the weaknesses of last years car. I expect Red Bull to be just as dominate if Perez can pull his weight. The fight for second will be much closer. Everybody will be copying what Red Bull did in 2023, while Adrian Newey and Red Bull will be 6 months ahead in 2024.5.

I am from Melbourne (home of the Australian GP), and tickets here sold out within a few days of going on sale, and enormous support from the Government to keep the race here. Although Albert Park, in my opinion, is super meh and a mostly street circuit, I am glad to see support from F1/Liberty to keep a race here.

I would love to just race at the more traditional circuits but I guess it's a necessary evil to keep the sport alive and running. I'll continue to dream of Spa/Nurburgring/Hoffenheim/Sepang/Suzuka/Imola series only haha

My sentiment exactly. I don鈥檛 see MB closing the gap and Ferrari鈥檚 incompetence has turned from being repeated vices to becoming acceptable habits.

Did you feel the same about Schumacher in 2001? Hamilton in 2017...?

While a dominating driver/car/team combination can take away some of the uncertainty in who might win the championship, watching the best-of-the-best succeed during their prime is fun in and of itself, for me at least.

It鈥檚 a team sport, and Max is in the best team, with the best designer. No way do I think he is the best driver, certainly level with Hamilton and a far cry from Schumacher.

Agreed.

2000-2002: "It's a team sport, and <Michael> is on the best team..."

2018-2020: "It's a team sport, and <Lewis> is on the best team..."

No driver wins without being in a great car on a top team. Barichello, Bottas and Perez are proof that a great car and top team don't guarantee a Championship for every driver. The best drivers have something special that gives them an edge, and helps them get the most of the car's potential and execute consistently and repeatably. What's true of Max is true of the other greats, and what was true of them is true of Max.

No we don鈥檛 agree. Ferrari was not the best team and didn鈥檛 win the constructors in 2000. 2001 probably equal with McLaren. By 2002 I would agree they had the best car.

Seems my brain is foggy in 2000 but my basic premise still stands.

You are probably right. Formula one had to evolve. For many years, they have tried to develop it in the US ( Dallas for exemple). But until Netflix they weren't able to reach this market
