2017 Year in Review...How Did It End Up?

1675 GMT, II.61 (born one qtr before me!), pointed crown guard, gilt exclamation mark @6 rail dial, cal 1560, from original owner. Came with bright, blue back insert...found correct red back insert faded to my taste, also found correct 7206 w/correct end links.

At some point 24 hr hand was repainted all the way to tip. Left it with watchmaker today to remove/relume tip. Can鈥檛 turn out worse than present state. Will eventually get original hand.

Correct hand should look like this...

Looks great! Yes I assumed it was painted but there are some rumblings of small all red GMT hands that haven't been substantiated. Anyway, thanks much.

2017 has been the year when the malaise really took hold. After deciding that I had no time for Seikos, apart from the Pogues that I think are quite cool, I seem to have swept up quite a few (a small selection):

Not to mention the Sinn, the Heuers, oh and the odd Omega I stumbled across too...

Happy 2017, watch nerds!

I didn麓t want o spent too much this year, so I looked for and found some bargains...
Most of them are no big brands, but realized with a small budget...

Highlight in 2017 for sure is my Polarouter lucky punch

This Perpetual selfwinding may not look special on the first glance, but if you take a close look inside it has one of the very first and most beautiful automatic movements.

This Alpina is so beautiful I couldn麓t resist...

Never seen before, very early Universal Geneve automatic pre 138SS movement, so I had to add this to my small UG collection

This devine Jupiter B&B needs an service, runs fast, slow...

Last one for this year, my new Kelton Sub

Best wishes for 2018!

Great watches all around, but I really wonder how it is possible for you to talk already about your watch year 2017 when there are still nearly two weeks to go? Isn't that much too early?!?! 馃槙

Wow, impressive collections !

For me, 2017 was my first year of "serious" collecting. I started with an old seamaster calendar. Far from great condition, difficult to wind, but charming. I had to let it go shortly after buying my first Rolex, a 72 datejust 1601 in pristine condition.
Developing a growing fascination for Japanese watches, particularly vintage seikos (dressier models, I'm not a sports watch guy), I bought a GS, with the legendary automatic hi-beat movement. This is the watch I regret selling the most. I did it because I wanted to try new things, and can't afford to have that many pieces. But being more confident about my taste with time, I will definitely try to find a King or Grand Seiko in the near future.

After that, I wanted to try sportier watches. I bought a Sinn 104, a beautiful watch and great value for the money. But it felt too angular, too "masculine" on my wrist. I think I feel the same thing for most 40+mm watches with rotating bezels...

With the Sinn gone, I found an old Tudor oyster, 34mm, with great patina and a blued seconds hand that won me over.

Then I got interested in Universal Gen猫ve and their many Polerouters. After months of research, I bought a Jet, with a dial I find magnificent. The watch is so beautiful to my eyes that I find it too dressy for me. I almost prefer to look at it than to wear it, and that's a shame. So I'm selling it for this reason, and the fact that in the meantime, I got the Speedmaster virus.

That's why a bought, a few days ago after discovering this forum and waiting 2 months of intense research and learning, a 145.022-71, here on the forums. And I absolutely love it. Fist time I have a watch that large, but it's perfect for my wrist. This one is a definite keeper.

Now for 2018... Selling my Tudor and poleroutery, because with a speedy and a datejust, these are already pretty expansive pieces, that wouldn't be reasonable to keep them when I spent that much on the Rolex and Omega. And I can't decide to sell the Rolex to fund a less expansive sporty/dressy watch for now, even if I'm more and more leaning toward the Polerouter super, and a Constellation C shape. We'll see what next year brings us !

Did not buy many watches (more parts to finish projects...)

But this one is worth mentioning

This is a rare bird indeed - one out of 300 movements

Cal. 47.7 chronometre de bord

It is one of those calibres with which Omega achieved a world record at an observatory competition

Most of them were used in gimbaled ship chronometre cases

It is rare to find one encased as a pocket watch

Great seeing what members have purchased this year. Some seriously fantastic watches.
Unfortunately I have no watches to contribute to the post. All I can do is put my eyes back in their sockets, pick my jaw up off the ground and wipe the drool from my mouth. I think I鈥檝e caught the watch collecting bug.

Love this thread! I've just understood how crazy I feel and may seem after this post.

First, the one I got for the miss, and this one is not going anywhere:

Last, one i bought in 2017, which I no longer have (but I've given it to my dad, so it's in the family 馃榾 )

Not a bad year!
Congrats!!

First, OUT in 2017:
Movado 19068:

Grand Seiko 6146:

Heuer Camaro 9220T:

Now, IN in 2017:
Rolex GMT 1675:

JLC Memovox 855, black dial with gilt print:

Omega Speedy 60th (first Speedy!):

Heuer Camaro 9220NT (basically traded in the silver dial for the black dial):

So in terms of # of watches, just +1: not bad, right???

2018:
Plan is to consolidate collection into a couple of grails.
The likely outcome is...just getting a whole bunch of new stuff.

Heuer Camaro 73343 NT Third

Breitling Soccer Timer 34-31 Blue (Sold. I can't be a sticker collector)

Glycine Panda Poor Man's Camaro

Doxa Searambler Vintage 300 (no-T)

@Ninja2789 Keep the Black Lung! There's nothing else like it. (Well, except for your other Doxa. But I would personally take the Sub 300 over the Searambler any day of the week.)
