It was a slow year for me as well. Nothing left the stable but I did add the ceramic Submariner. The year did not go without spending money on vintage though as I added the DON Bezel and 1039 bracelet for my '68 Transitional. I very happy where the collection is now and I am going to try to enjoy this collection as it is in 2018. Good luck to me!!

I bought quite a few, but not so many as in years past. Sold fewer. Two incomings were grails (the Monte Carlo and Byrd).

I started my hobby in 2017. I went through quite a few watches to see what I liked.

I guess Rolex subs are the one for me.

So far kept the 16700 and 14060. Consolidating for a 5513

For the first time in years, I didn't plan to buy anything in 2017. Except for the ST I knew was coming of course (and I got one from Omega, bought two extra for my dad and wife). Since I was rather happy with my - then - current collection, I had no wishes 😀 That changed quickly, as soon as I noticed the 60th anniversary version would be introduced in BaselWorld. So I ordered that one (and picked it up in November). Then, I was offered the X-33 that was owned by a space shuttle astronaut (and childhood hero). So bought that too. Anyway, it went on like that.. so in the end, 2017 was a pretty good year for my watch collection...

A lot of Omega (ST, 60th, X33, Seamaster Pro 300M Ti/Ta/Ro, Tintin, Globemaster), Rolex (Sub 114060), Seiko (vintage 'Racing Diver') and Eterna KonTiki Bronze. Crazy. I think 2018 should be slower 😀

I usually read FW but not sure if I missed the article on how you got an X33 from an astronaut... care to share any more on it? Sounds incredible.

Correct, I never published this story. The circumstances why the guy needed to sell his dad's (an astronaut) X-33 isn't all that fun, so I keep it a bit under the radar. However, yes, it is a X-33 that I was offered to buy from him, he received it from Omega when it was introduced in 1998 at the European Space Agency in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. It did not fly, as he was a space shuttle astronaut in the 1980's. However, being a kid I remember his mission vividly and that the Space Shuttle was often subject in school and on the news at the time. The astronaut was more or less a (childhood) hero and later on I was in touch with him about (other) watches. Omega presented the watch to him in 1998, when the X-33 was introduced at several events (I think in the US it was presented at the NASA center in Houston) and wanted him to become more or less a 'friend of the brand' or 'ambassador', but he was very reluctant to these kind of things, so he accepted the watch but never actively showed it or wore it during public occasions. Anyway, for me that doesn't matter, I know it was his and I am happy to have something of his heritage (he passed away a couple of years ago, very sad) for myself.

Wanted a first-for-me vintage Speedy for 2017 and got a transitional (with a service crown per MWO). Pretty 😀 with it, but I might either try to get a period correct crown, or(/and?) upgrade to a 105.012-65 (potential reference of the First Watch Worn on the Moon) in 2018.
